1k excess in 5 minutes, and i'm going to say that i think it would have been better to excess the metal rather than spend it on Hawks, they are such unique garbage.

At least the enemy cannot reclaim the metal you excess, so it does less harm!

1) I must say GBrankPRO_rANDY is a true gentleman as far as I can tell as he doesn't abuse units or combos, considered OP. So it's actually possible to challenge his positions in the mid-game.

2) The moment I saw planes, esp. hawks, I knew air would stay mine: many gunships like brawler, krow, banshees, rapiers are actually very competitive against sparse hawks, but tridents put planes on their knees. Ofc, there are outstanding examples of great air use, like by SErankGodde, but I'm talking about common level of air play.

3) Being inspired by how GBrank[Fx]Drone used to play couple of years ago during his prime, I try to be very macro and reclaim aware. I think here this approach managed to save me the game.

Also this game I realized I don't know a good counter to mass recluses, when terrain is that varied. Probably badgers?

Sounds like one of the Phoenix niches.

My first few minutes were very poor with resource balancing, neglected E way too much, then I didn't make enough caretakers at my factory early enough. Later on not enough cons.

Avoiding OP combos is not intentional :(

Very nice comeback ivand and good job for not giving up where others would have!

Why would you try to consistently avoid making units and armies which are considered OP? I think you are claiming all of the following:
1. Some units are very unbalanced in a clear-cut way that everyone agrees upon and it breaks the game.
2. The balance of the game is impossible to improve or change.
3. Everyone has agreed to stick to some unit or composition ban.
4. Most players consequently ignore the ban, except for the honourable @Pro_rANDY.
