Results don't show any elo changes to me. Are they only visible to players? How much did you lose?

think like -20 in 2 games.
anyway, i am not that concerned with my elo anymore. at least it moves up and down now after a basic stalemate of a year.
i just wondered...
BTW Skasi, when are you going to play again?

A change of 20 in 2 games isn't much. Remember elo changes are larger for smaller team sizes.

Not sure when I'm gonna play. Some weeks ago I told myself I'd visit the mumble server eventually. Kinda nice hanging out with you and others, but pssssshhh.... can't get myself to do it. (And I hate myself for that! Duh! :P)

You must set yourself free from elo curse.

Why?

quote:
Why?

Because elo should represent your skill at the game, and not your skill at farming elo.

Well as said, i just got irritated because AS FAR AS I REMEMBER (wich is likely to be blurred) i started with something like 1600 when i coudn´t play the game at all. A year later i learned a lot, but my elo was basically the same. I play to improve myself, thats no secret. So to make that clear, i don´t play for the elo itself, but it is the indicator that i have changed somehow.

I think its important to detatch your perception of 'how good at the game I am' from your account elo. Elo is not accurately mapped to your skill level, its mapped to the games you play.

To put it another way, I could play 20 back-to-back 1v1s against Godde. I would lose a LOT of elo, but I would probably actually improve as a player from the experience. The two values are not strictly linked.

The best measure of your actual skill level is how you perform in tournaments, or perhaps your win rate against a particular sole opponent.

losing 1n1 vs a top player wont steal much elo. winnin, on the contrary, should win you much of them elons. for details you should, however, ask someone with knowledge of the exact formula.

Yes thats why you see i am not farming it. If i would i would not play against 4hundred. It was the calculation that made me wonder in this case. Because the difference between his and my number is so high i expected less of a change. Shouldn´t it nearly stay the same for both if there is like 400 differnce?

Don't think in ratings, they are for ranking not for intuitiveness, think in chances. You had a one in four chance of winning, so the combined Elo loss of three losses equates the gain of a single victory. If you can't actually win one out of four games then either your rating is too high or 4hundred's is too low. This is the principle on which all Elo, glicko, trueskill and WHR are based.

Actually I think most of you are confusing something. DErankkatastrophe's elo loss is due to an elo difference of around 150, not an elo difference of 400-500.

This is a private room, not a matchmade room so elo change affects casual elo, not competitive elo. Right? So 4hundred's 1907 vs katastrophe's 1748 (current numbers - they were probably a little bit different back then, but likely still close).

Perhaps CHrankAdminDeinFreund already got it right, considering a "one in four" chance of winning is closer to 150 diff's 1/3 than to 400 diff's 1/10
