They are not easy to beat but they were always beatable when you follow some simple rules, e.g. killing nests. Did you try it a second time? Maybe you were just "lucky" it kind of heavily depends in what minute you kill some nests and where the chicks attack

also you had good aggression +1 for each nest.
you did not fight at bottom. I bet when starting with same startbox and defending bottom you will fail. Chickens have to walk up there etc. :-)
