Swifts - only for scouting?

I've recently been playing around with the air factory, after watching a number of team games in the giant games that are hosted every night (PS: I love them).

I've noticed that most people playing air have a ton of swifts flying around providing a certain air screen. And sure, they're really great for scouting (especially with their speed boost), but when I was playing with them in a smaller team game, I found Swifts to be incredibly disappointing for their cost. You can't even kill a single flea with one salvo with a Swift! It takes dozens of swifts to deal any meaningful amount of damage! Are these planes merely intended to provide anti-air screening, or are they actually supposed to shoot down other planes (Which they suck at too)? With the advent of the sparrow recon plane (which can be built at the air factory too), I would argue that Swifts should be modified to fit their role as a screening fighter, not just a fast sack of HP.

Do others agree?

I don't agree because this conflicts with the premise of the Raptor thread which says Swifts are better Anti-air than Raptors because of the alpha of the anti-air missiles.

Swift it anti-air unit.

Swift is fairly universal. It defends your base from raider intrusion, cloaky assassins, air attacks and it also happens to be one of the most effective scouts. Such universally useful units are rare and thus you have to pay the price for it.

Wait, Swifts get anti-air missiles? That helps compensate for its price then... but as a new player, when I read "general purpose fighter", I expect it to at least be able to kill a flea... Can we call it an anti-air/scouting fighter?

Swift is fast interceptor aircraft who can use its booster to intercept other aircraft. It is not meant for reliable ground attacking except in very large numbers. However it can be used not allow skyte or other cloaked enemy to cloak. It have scouting roles and hit and run role. On very small maps swifts is worse of course.
