So i think the 1v1 queue should dislplay players also in 1v1 queued battles, to make the 1v1 queue appear to be "in use", much like the list of players in the ZK channel can display players in battle with the "in battle" icon even though the players themsleves are in their own battleroom.

I also think there hould be a "ZK 1v1" chat channel that joining the 1v1 room automatically sends you into, and you don't get switched away from this except by manually selecting a different chat channel, or by leaving the 1v1 queue room.

I also think that 1v1 queued battles should immediately dump players back into the "ZK 1v1" chat channel / battleroom as soon as Spring closes, and that all the usual automatd messages of the replay link and such should also be pasted into the "ZK 1v1" chat channel, it would make things more lively.

I also think that when a new queued 1v1 battleroom is made tehre should be a "1v1 battle is started between (player1) and (player2)" that will be a clickable link to send the person who clicked into the battleroom and automatically join the battle, unless of course the player doesn't have the map.

What do you think? I think this sort of thing should be or could be implementable for all the queued room, to create a more communal sense of player-to-player interactive environment thingie.

The ideas are cool and all, but they'd increase the already immense feeling that ZK is an IRC client with side option of games (instead of a game client with chat ability).

Also, chat is super useful:

I have a feeling that implementation of the 1v1 and 2v2 queues and getting rid of the open rooms have a detrimental effect on the number of the games played.

Can someone qualified compare the number of matches played prior and after we have got queues in place?

this.
I haven't played as much recently, even after cooling from an incident because the new quest system seems a bit confusing. it's ambiguous how long it will take or how many are waiting until you get ready, which seems to be like a stripped version of a typical mmo match maker but bent to make it keep some resemblance of the old room system. the custom rooms along side them look like they're only there for compatibility. they work, of course. it just gives the feeling that the community(or at least the devs) would rather go to a regular mm.

though, I can see a reason for not having time, num in, etc probably a lack of players using it at a given time(unless I'm just on at the wrong times, which is possible).

sorry if this doesn't make sense or sounds wrong/dumb

How so? You enter the queue and get a single game with the desired properties (after a wait). Alternatively, you enter a spawned room to spectate a single game.

Compare to old rooms where you must also do stuff like vote to start, make sure you have the desired number of players (eg. you can start 1v1s in the team room), make sure to spec if you want to take a break, make sure the map didn't change to trololo_zombies while waiting, or even make sure you are in the correct room (because eg. everyone else moved to some other room).

You can't tell how long it would take in old rooms, either. Also, the queue shows the number of enqueued people (because it is technically also a room).

Stripped? It has the same functionality of 1 click -> battle. You even have some optional control over maps and maybe more.

"Stripped?"
-> I guess people think that because it's just not as flashy.

Compare sitting in a room, unsure what's happening, to this:

Now I'm not saying we need all that fancy stuff, and I know it's fairly obvious, but maybe just put a note somewhere like "Finding opponent..." or "Matchmaking in progress..."?

I might look into obtaining these stats later today.

GBrankTheEloIsALie I entirely agree. I think ZK Queue needs to have the central visual space become dedicated to some "finding an opponent" thing, with the chatbox off to the side.

Robocraft already does something very much worth copying, in theme at least!

clogging up the whole viewport with some timer should be simple enough i guess

Data on duels/month.

If anyone has methodology issues, raise them NOW GetDate();.

quote:

SELECT Count(*) as Duels, Months FROM
(
SELECT Title, DATEDIFF(MONTH,StartTime, GetDate()) as Months from [zero-k].[dbo].[SpringBattle]
WHERE PlayerCount=2
AND HasBots = 0
AND IsMission = 0
AND isFfa = 0
) data
WHERE Months < 12
GROUP BY Months
ORDER BY Months ASC;

Duels Months
322 0
1006 1
1180 2
1221 3
1503 4
1687 5
1843 6
1862 7
1304 8
1563 9
1391 10
2077 11

Should i query it with smaller time increments? Like per week?
Is data for small teams desired?
Should i ever be using DATEDIFF at all, or is it a lying function of evilness?
Is data for December complete?

EDIT:
Actually, if we filter out 1v1 games played by newbies against each other on non-official hosts, it gets worse.

Perhaps data should be limited by referencing public duel hosts for games in the past and ZK1v1 (or whatever the name is) for games since queues are in place.

Now the query you have shown takes into account custom games as well, which I believe greatly distorts the data we are to find out.

P.S. Seems like we posted simultaneously.
