How is ZK's compatibility with Windows 8 and 10?

Engine and games work fine. Dunno about zkl but I see no reason for zkl to not work if it works on 8x.

It doesn't, I recommend skipping that version.

It works with win 8, you need to some messing around after installation, more details here: http://zero-k.info/Forum/Thread/14163

Why is anyone even using 8 anymore(Unless masochist)?

Because I don't want to upgrade to 10, so I'm likely just going to give Linux mint another shot as soon as I can be assed. The amount of windows only stuff I do these days is slim to nil, only major program is world machine, but reports say it works fine with wine.

Why mint? When I tried it I found it was harder to set up than *ubuntu with no advantages.

Because 10 is faster than 7. There is a noticeably shorter boot time. When already booted it seems to be about the same speed. For me a 120s boot/startup time going to ~50s is a big deal.

Oh. Oki. I only boot my computer once a day before I go make my breakfast/run for the toilet. :P

If you want a super short boot time, why not just set your computer to sleep instead of turning it off?

Windows is stupid and gets slow without restarts.

Hmm haven't experienced that. Only with Firefox, but that might be flash or some plugin/addon. :-/

I reboot my comp maybe once a week. In everyday use I always just hibernate. So startup times don't matter for me.

I've been over ubuntu since Unity ui was implemented. Linux mint has a much nicer interface and out of all the ui's I've tried (Unity, Gnome, KDE, xfce, lxde, etc) Cinnamon is by far my favorite. I gave the newest version a try via live boot today and since I've stopped using it Cinnamon has become way more customizable and has much more power and variety of theming, effects, appearance.

My first ubuntu was 12.04 (debian before that) and I agree that unity is horrible. Even Gnome is a better DE, at least it has proper menus. Unity feels like a phone interface badly adapted for desktops. I switched to Xubuntu (XFCE) at 12.10 and it's my favorite DE out of all the ones I've tried.

I haven't used cinnamon but I've heard good things about it. What didn't you like about XFCE?

I didn't dislike xfce. For lower spec systems it's my top recommendation. IMO Cinnamon has a better aesthetic and control panel.
