H&H is an open-world sandbox perma-death PvP game that I've been a fan of for a while but is getting a big graphical/gameplay update today. Been waiting to play it for months but today is finally release day, if anyone else cares for these types of games then check it out: http://www.havenandhearth.com/portal/

Here is a simple gameplay trailer:

Once I tried to play it, but it was so dead.

its not a game where you can expect to have lots of encounters with other players, in fact if you meet another player you should probably run in the other direction lol

you wont have to worry about it being dead now since it is fresh release

That combat system looks so interesting![/sarcasm]

But honestly though it is a sandbox game that doesn't seem to have anything interesting sandbox wise. As in: everything you make other people make exactly the same. There is no individualism only tasks. But then there might be a social element associated with the game that might make it engaging? I dunno.

I dont care much for playing minecraft type game, but there is plenty of individualism, you can create/design your village however you want. You can specialize your account for whatever skill you want. You can go with whatever playstyle suits your tastes, for some people that is being a white knight and tracking down bad guys, for others it is being a hermit or you could be a crafter in a big village. Personally I like to just raid villages and kill people, there's plenty of social elements to the game.

The PvP is fine, there's not many games where you have such adrenaline as this with your account on the line in every fight. You risk months of grinding every time you fight and that is something I find very fun.

So it is basically DayZ (or any MP survival game) in 2d environment.

sounds like a very drone thing to do

Skasi
Oh interesting, I thought H&H devs were busy with Salem as a successor. I played the original for a few weeks until I've gotten bored of farming (literally). Had found a house and set up a nice cozy place. Tried Salem for a bit, but kinda had the same experience.

Although different, very open and with lots of things to explore and build, both games feel more like a grind than anything else after a few days of playing. Perhaps that's just because I haven't really gotten into combat too much.

What's the last ~10 seconds in the trailer about?

That Skasi was a PvP fight I assume.
Exciting isn't it?

'its not much like DayZ' how so?
You got a bunch of hostile mobs around you. You need resources to survive against these AND there are other players that will gladly steal these resources from you whether they need it or just for an fun factor.

PLrankOrfelius because like skasi said, its all about grind: building village, raising your stats and crafting etc. The gameplay feels nothing like dayz. Sure you can say they are both "open world survival" but other than that there's no similarity.

As for the combat it can be some times retarded, since you often end up with endless chases with everybody moving at constant speed. For the most part though my experience with combat has been positive, that being said, all I mostly ever did was kill noobs, my screenshot kill-count was up to 33 by the time I stopped playing previously.

I have also been visiting the forums to check the news fromt ime to time, so i certainly will set up a new lonely isolated cabin in the H&H2.

I wonder if they unfucked some of the systems that used to be fucked in the original, like combat, skill leveling and animal hunting.
