I have a feeling that is one of the things that will take a decent amount of work to impliment but only a small percentage of players would use or even notice the change. For those reasons, I doubt a mex rectangle selection option will be added.

that would be finally very useful USrankAutoWar. Making area mex on edge of map is horror.

and rectangle command in general...
and free selection command in general...

as USrankKshatriya said this could require a lot of work, but i dont think that in general case it will be rarely useful
i believe majority of players want more flexibility with selections for better micro
