Problems with english

Hi everyone,

recently we have the case of a new player who at least seems as if he can´t speak even a little english.
Besides the problem that you are absolutely unable to understand anything the game tells you, we should
at least aim to translate the basic message of "use english plz" and the code of conduct in some other
languages, maybe spanish and french. Imagine this game would be entirely in chinese, what would you do?

What do you mean by that?

First search for a language pack, then (after failing) either quit or try to copy other players or figure everything out via science (trial&error) myself.

I meant "If you do not speak english well, warn your team in advance", which appears in ode loading-screen i think.
Basically, it was just an idea to get the game more user-friendly.
Skasi you are completely right, I just don´t want people to quit the game because of that.

P.S. : Try to copy other players? Waiting for the first one to say "Hi" as "LOBSTERS!" :)

Thats what you get with playing with random people. If they cannot speak the same language then thats pretty much your problem. Besides that there is no way of knowing what kind of language they speak. Simply using IP adresses as a base for that wont work because that is no indication that this player speaks main language from this country.

Answer is simple: don't play with pubbies (or don't play in teams).

Nah, I just meant figuring out which units do what, which to spam, etc. Being unable to understand short unit descriptions for "unique"/"complex" units mean could make them completely useless. Players probably would take quite some time to figure out how exactly Djinn, Archer, Dguns, Jump commands, etc. work.

This must have been suggested already: dota-like translated quick messages?

I think that was suggested for markers before. Something like a gesture-menu for markers or a voice-command menu like FPS games usually have them.

Don't unit names and descriptions have translations?

To make that clear: I did not want to translate everything in the game. I am completely aware of the fact that this would take way too much
time and resources for minimum positive outcome. But how should someone know he should warn you if he simply cannot read the request?

If he could install and run a game completely while not knowing english then props to him I guess.
Evidently he is intelligent enough to figure stuff out and there have been players like that in our community.
DErankXivender is a great example of such player.

Wrong. Operating systems can tell software what language to use. Users usually also have some sort of input device to manually select languages.

Many ingame things are already translated into three different languages.

Actually if you want to you can help with localization:

Unfortunately German does not appear to be in the works at all.

German is already in-game through another method. It should probably get ported to Transifex though.

Yeah. I'm willing to help with a translator, as long as the project is started.
