Make Avengers pull up

What if we gave Avengers a leveler sidearm the ability to attack better? Currently their attack is flying straight at the target until they get hit on the head by the targeted melee unit. Why can't they pull up half a second before they'd get into melee range? For me it would make more sense for planes not to be vulnerable to melee attacks (except for melee bomber ofc).

Also their circling around the target might not be optimal for maximum dps. They might wanna forget about the target for a second until they turn around again.

Paperbirds(thunderbads) that do no damage and die to defenders 99% of the time.
Or you could just make rapiers or something.

70% of the time I see people stunning their own units just as much as the enemy's. If they somehow do get a good run off, the enemy just retreats for 10 seconds. Next time they bring aa and enjoy their 550 metal donation.
How to make thunderbirds actually useful:
Metal cost 550->400
* Doesn't stun allied units.
Then it would actually be scary and having aa would be important. When I see thunderbirds I think "aww thats cute, lets postpone attacking by 10 seconds".


Avengers are also useless. Well I lied, they have 1 use in chasing down bombers and banshees. Then they die horribly to tridents or rapiers or anything else really. I'm not really sure how these should be balanced, as if they actually could kill stuff(and function as air superiority fighters) they would be beyond broken. They can also pick off lone raiders, but often end up dying to them as well. They avenge your opponent for you building them.
Hawks are slow, and can't even trade well against rapiers. They get mauled by tridents super hard too.
Why bother with avengers/hawks when you can just spam tridents mindlessly and win all air engagements.

Phoenix costs too much for what it does. Either raise hp a ton or lower cost a ton. Skirms may be hit hard by this, but luckily the bullshit heavy skirmishers(firewalker,grizzly,buoy) will still be fine.

Airfactory is never scary, always a freewin for your opponent who gets gunships.
Gunships just outclass air in every way(except for speed maybe, but I never found this too problematic).

Remove raven dive and make them like 10% cheaper. Make bombs drop a bit faster. Give bombs aoe slow damage(large radius(insert slow damage meme)). Means you can't use them to pick off raiders, but are more effective against heavier units. EMP would also be a possibility.

There might be a tag in the engine for pulling up. Or maybe the PR was never pulled.

In general the fighter behaviour in Spring is a mess. It works for some things but there are a lot of parameters and we are unlikely to end up with what we want. Perhaps there should be a gadget to control fighter strafing.

Air getting mauled by gunship in air-to-air engagements is a problem, yes. Phoenix could also be better.

20 rapiers are better than 10 thunderbirds. One Thunderbird is so, so much better than two rapiers.

70% of people are bad at Thunderbirds. They do require skill.

new flier, has triple GAU-8 pods. super op flier with only an occasional trip to landing pad for ammo; and since it's a gun and not bomb (it's) going to shoot the enemy from a distance.

This behaviour can be dynamically configured since spring 100. Someone made a gadget which could be easily adapted for zk : http://pastebin.com/Yf2RtJqu

attack safety distance : how close to the target (3d) strafe air attackers get before aborting the dive and trying to resume normal altitude (default is 0).

350 range is a decent value for aircraft with 500-600 range weapons (like swifts). Set to higher than max range if you want them to behave like bombers (not dive at all).

Lol.
I see so many games when air is key to win all game. Even using only swifts. Swifts only for intercepting bombers and banshees? I killed with swifts many com with low hp, cooked lobsters with licho and punished many gs players who thought that air is useless. More then half of my CA awards go because i played air.
Trident? Swift have speed boost and they can deal with low number of tridents. Swift speed bonus allows them deal with rapiers, brawlers and only krow is superior them. I see many games where swift player played so good that throw back even gs players. In pure strength/hp gs is superion in lategame then swifts but not on large map where swifts balls become ultra annoying and only screamers is option.
Swift have great blaster range to harass ground unit like raiders even it require some micro.
Phoenix is weak for it price. I agree with that.
Raven need use now more carefully then old times.
Hawk is still superior vs gs if you dont cluster them. They kill tridents even combined with rapiers. And they can kill rapiers without retaliation. Only miracle is not to cluster them. In cost term hawks easy kill krow.
Licho is nightmere in small map when it fast rushed. Its just kill all enemy com with 2000 hp or less and kill shield balls, unit clusters.
Radar plane is OP in sea combat. It have sonar, radar, radar jammer.
Thundebird ir fragile, that right. However i cooked many shield ball with thunderbird + phoenix. Disarmed striders and porc clusters or even sneak scythes, scorpion in base.
Air is good in small teams and large teams. Just need learn how to play it.
