I found Zero-K a few days ago because of a blog-post ( http://fossgames.blogspot.de/2016/11/zero-k-14110.html?m=1 ) and like it really much so far. (Only played against AI and watched a few replays for now).

Now I've checked out the repos but didn't found any information about the license of your assets (audio, textures, etc.).
Are they covered by GPL2 as well or are there different licenses like CC?

CC attribute sharealike.

Just when you use it, make sure to show the ZK website for it.

I haven't really looked at CC yet, but I'm sure that's what it means

Where is that quote from? In any case, https://springrts.com/wiki/Games probably needs an update (seeing as it says it's GPL/PD).
GPL makes no sense for art, and shouldn't be used.

PS: I think ZK has multiple/unclear licensing for art, am I wrong?

Consult the Credits page. Code is all GPL (specific version listed in the widget code, usually v2), art will require tracing back to each asset's own license.

Afaik models' copyright was never explicitly stated and they have multiple sources so it would be hard to track. However seeing how most models come from Spring community it is fair to say that the models are some sort of open source license. Unsure about the Crabe model, which comes from one of the OTA mods though.

Music and all sound effects are credited and open source with various licenses and their sources in a text file in the repo.

Code is GPL.

All 2d art is CC.

PS. Don't talk about things you have no idea about NZrankhedgehogs . You are not helpful at all.

I'm someone who knows something about this. I sourced most of the sounds and made sure to track their licenses. This is, broadly, correct:

You can safely assume that everything is CC-BY-NC-ND because that is the most restrictive license we use.

There is little license information for 2D or 3D art because most of it was created by the community and people are generally bad at this type of thing. There are files called origin.txt in the models folder and some of the image folders which contain some specific licensing for the assets in the folder. Often this information is in the form "All spiders except Crabe" instead of actual model names. Some of them use Artistic License 2.0. Here you can find some public domain things or less restrictive versions of CC.

If a model has the format 3do then it is likely to be a model made by a TA-modder, such as Crabe. There are known exceptions. Every other model is likely to be from someone in the Spring community (the engine that runs ZK) and they would have at least released the model for use in Spring games.

The 2D art is mostly made explicitly for ZK so will have been made with the default ZK license in mind. Some stuff looks as if it is from the internet. Whether you want to assume that whoever added it used a proper free image library is up to you.

Most things in Sounds have their license in origin.txt. Some sounds don't because they predate my sound redo and seemed legit. The music is Denny Schneidemesser http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_licensing.cfm?bandID=604509

Everything in LuaUI\Sounds predates my work on sounds and is no longer used. I think the sounds there are from some FOSS game. One exception, I assume the copyright for sovnat1.wav is held by the proletariat.

The code (including shaders) is all GPL compatible.

It's likely this question will come again, so it would help if you could add this information somewhere permanent, such as in the Github repo.
