Out of pure interest, I've compiled a list of the maps with the least random outcomes. This means I applied Whole History Rating to each of these maps independently and scored the accuracy of it. The better the rating system can predict the outcomes of games on a specific map, the higher the score. Maps with purely random outcomes are most unpredictable and thus earn the smallest score.

Sadly this requires a lot of games on each map to achieve usable data and even using the entire zk dataset (filtered for fair 1v1-3v3) proved insufficient for all but the most popular maps. Anyway I found it interesting to see that maps one might consider "random" are actually very predictable, probably due to a strong correlation between skill and players' experience in map specific strategies.

Start releasing your datasets please!

Speed metal is predictable, cuz better players have more experience in zk, thus they know they need NASA computer to play speed metal, while the nubs dont know this and lagg away.

Alternatively, pros just spam fleas and wait for nubs to leave.

Avalanche better than Geyser? BLASPHEMY

I was astonished to see SpeedMetal faring much better than SuperSpeedMetal. Other maps with different versions, like Intersection_v3 and Intersection_v2 (not shown due to only having <1000 battles) have nearly the same score. The supermex and superfus apparently make it a lot more random.

What is the number? How do I interpret this?

Log scoring

It's a way of scoring rating systems independent of how balanced each match is. A rating system always returning 50:50 win chances will get a 0 score. WHR is the best rating system I currently have implemented, achieving a higher score than all other systems I've tried. If WHR still gets a score of 0, this most likely means the games are close to unpredictable and a competitive ladder using these results would be meaningless (has no prediction power in saying who's better than who). The higher the score of a map, the more meaningful it is to rank players playing on these maps.

Geyser isn't number one? Must be a bad algorithm

Super good asymmetrical map

proof that is possible to have balanced asymmetrical maps

You do realize that IsisDelta is the worst 1v1 map on this list? Even much worse than CooperHill.

Thats because IsisDelta might look good but it plays like utter shit. In fact I would say it was only played because of the fact that Skasi made it be a map for the sandbox mission.

Isis delta looks good, and has some interesting map features. Asymmetry is sexy too...

But the sides were far from balanced. West seemed quite favoured since it has a brutal choke in the South that also facilitates the securing of the metal obelisk while guarding against attack from the sea.

There weren't too many viable factories either... Amph or bust.

On top of which, having a big river down the centre acts as a wall and basically rules out effective aggression.

So there is some good... but once the map's solved it lost all appeal.

Isn't this a list with the least random outcomes?

ITrankOldGhostStalker indeed, but it only contains the most popular maps. The ones at the bottom of this list are actually the most random/unbalanced maps.

So, I have to guess wich side is the most favoured and try to set it as the map of my homeworld....

Just choose the maps you're good at.
