What are people's thoughts on a game mode where there are three (or more) teams, none of which are allied with each other but some which may start with a cease-fire.
The AI is in the middle of the map, and starts with a large economic advantage over any single human team, but together the humans have parity or, depending on balance, greater economy.
Ideal game flow:
Both sides must defeat the AI, or both lose. (Enforcing this last part is what I would imagine to be the difficult bit, let alone getting the AI to play fair if it even can.)
Both sides must then defeat each other, so at some point, probably before the complete destruction of the AI, the ceasefire is broken and it becomes FFA.
Downsides I've already thought of:
People will porc and wait. Perhaps start the AI off with some heavy artillery that needs to be pushed into. Ideally, stationary artillery that physically can only target one team's starting location - this provides an incentive to go and destroy it, and indeed provides the other team with an incentive to wreck most of the AI fast and leave that bit alone. Could be enhanced by making only the artillery owning AI (no other units, just the artillery) allied/ceasefired with the team(s) it wasn't shooting at.
