Greetings Zero-K fans.

We are going to have a 1v1 tournament to round the year off. This tournament is open to all players above 1800 in either competitive or casual whr. I would like to have a forum badge for the winner, but this may or may not happen.

Depending on the number of interested parties, a second tournament may run in parallel or on the 16th for those below this requirement.

The scheduled time for this tournament is 20:00 (8:00pm) UTC on 15 December 2018. See spoiler for helpful time conversion.
[Spoiler]

This go around we will be having format changes (again). This tournament will not have a swiss round, unlike the team games. Instead it will be Single Elimination best of 3.

Rules:
- Standard tournament etiquette applies.
- Please show up between 19:00 and 20:00 UTC for sign ins. Estimated run time is 2-4hrs.

I'm busy on that saturday :(

My idea behind badges was that they should be really rare and hard to get. I like the idea of a special badge for tourney winners, but I think this should then only hold until it's transferred to the next holder.

A single tourney feels a little underwhelming to give out badges, but if you make this a series and always transfer the badge to the winner or similar it might be more appropriate.

Pretty much what I was thinking too.

Ugh! I'm 1689 now, I think. Do I have time to climb 111 before the tourney? We shall see...

Still, looking forward to seeing the titans slug it out.

I'll get back from overseas 12 hours before the tournament starts, so I'll sign up on the off-chance my awake time coincides with the tournament.

Unfortunately, yes. If you can get 5 or so other people below 1800 who are willing to play 1v1, I can run a <1800 tournament in parallel or on the next day. You won't be competing for a forum badge though. Instead you get a little coin. I normally prefer to be very inclusive, and it pains me very much to say no. Rules are rules and 4hundred wanted a pro tournament. Think of this cap as a means of preserving your morale. It sucks so much to play one round and lose twice, then go to losers bracket and lose twice. The offer stands though!

No worries! I completely understand. I think I might've gotten another litrpg author to play today by posting a video on Facebook. He has some Planetary Annihilation experience, so it should be interesting. He was super psyched about the game. I'd love to play against some lower ELO players for the sportsmanship - no badges required.

I still like the idea of a pro tournament. I've learned a lot watching some of the old tourney casts. Still have a long way to go, but I'm learning. I did really badly in my first Zero K tourney this summer. (I might've been a bit too high. Shh!) Seriously, though, I just wanted to see how much I'd advanced and do better than 7 out of 8 maybe. Haha.

But yeah, I'm super excited about the pro tourney and will be tuning in if CArankAdminShadowfury333 casts.

All that said, if any other lobs wanna have a parallel tourney, let us know! ;)

I'm working that evening sadly (no, not taking leave simply for robot armies). However, I hope plenty of vets turn out to show the rest of us lobs really high level play and that enough >1800 players take the plunge to have their own tournament. Zero-K is a good spectator sport!

But I do hope it isn't in the swiss format and instead elimination with a loser's bracket.

Answer: There will not be a swiss round. It's purely DE. Swiss is for casual tournaments. This is a hardcore super ultra mega giga extremely serious tournament. Emphasis: serious. You're potentially fighting for the coveted master of the universe badge plus bragging rights! The next super mega blah blah serious tournament will be in 4-6 months where the badge will be up for grabs again.
