The constant cycle of improvements continues.

Note: many of these changes were in previous stables following v1.0.8.1, just not disclosed because they didn't merit news posts on their own.

Balance



Grizzly:
  • HP 10k -> 9k

Goliath:
  • Replaced flamethrower with short ranged slow beam. 3x damage and reload time as that of Moderator.

Puppy:
  • Cannot eat map features.

Phoenix
  • AoE 256 -> 216
  • Max on fire time 15s -> 10s

Duck:
  • Cost 200 -> 180

Avenger:
  • HP 300 -> 350
  • Missile Damage 200 -> 220
  • No longer auto targets ground units when patrolling.

Vamp:
  • Speed 10 -> 9.5

Vulture:
  • Speed 11 -> 12
  • HP 850 -> 950

Crane:
  • HP 180 -> 240

Athena:
  • Can build Djinn

Interface


  • Fixed checkbox rendering
  • Old energy icon is now used for unpowered units.
  • Metal spot data is shown in replays.
  • Minimap can be resized when not in tweak mode but it cannot be expanded to take up the whole view.

Other


  • Fixed amph factory killing things touching its backside (such as morphing geos).
  • Fixed tactical AI which broke due to new engine compatibility.
  • Merl has a "don't fire at radar" toggle.
  • Melee chicken attacks are no longer blocked by shields.
  • Initial states configuration now handles cloaked units properly.
  • Clippy complains less about energy.

Flamer was replaced because golly was too antispam and puppy can't eat rocks because of ultra puppy rush on reclaim-heavy maps

I doubt the 10--> 9.5 reduction in vamp's speed will be noticed ;)

Cool in seeing the change to the puppy. Means feature heavy maps like Smoth's Harbor map are less wonky :)

Well the main complaint I heard was that Puppies preety much broke the map due to strutures.

Nope. Other way around. >100k reclaim is bad even without Puppies. Nano > Mex just totally destroys the game.

Love that Goli lost its flamethrower. Not sure if a slow-beam is the right replacement, but still, taking away the flamer was long overdue.

I really don't like the puppy thing. I absolutely understand why it's necessary, but it seems ugly and inconsistent to treat map features differently from wrecks. Something needed to be done, but I wish there was a better option, like limiting puppies to one-per-wreck/feature or raising the e-cost of budding or something.

Hopefully phoenix nerf will be what it takes to resurrect the skirm game.

Well speedmetal mexes are of course easily solved now by an LUA metal map(heck we could probably metalmap some of Smoth's older maps that he never made a MM for), but I do get ya on the struture metal and the issues with reclaim.

love the puppy change!

Grizzly HP nerf is wonky - the model is HUGE and looks supertough. Please shrink the model size.

Goliath - dislike the slowbeam idea, would prefer a low powered razorkiss weapon for the pintle mounted laser.

Duck cost nerf - justified on land, will make them even more ridiculous and polarised in early game sea.

vamp speed nerf - good idea, differentiates fighters, but please reduce the slowdown while firing to somthing less extreme as it looks extremely silly when the planes virtually stop in mid-air.

I'm glad no gnat change, unit is still not played with enough to be sure if OP.

watch any 1v1/2v2 between decent players on any map with high reclaim.

Cooper Hill, Lowland Crossing Badlands and Aquatic Divide all had this issue. Watch the first game from det and I in the tournament: http://zero-k.info/Battles/Detail/93466

Floris even casted this one and we discussed the issue.

I've done this many times on all these maps, to Google and others. We even lost a larger team game on Planetwars (The planet called 'Puppy Testing Ground'...) because I said 'Prepare for puppies' and then the lead player lost his com to them.
