You may not want to hear this, but honestly your micro/decision making wasn't very good in this game. You kept trying to fight ducks without enough daggers to one shot them.

You kept trying to fight groups of ducks costing significantly more metal than your own group of daggers.

Your economy was weaker in the early game despite building a constructor first and your opponent starting by spamming ducks... because pootis had an engineering commander and it builds the initial mexes faster. Spending money on your constructor instead gave you a very slightly stronger economy after a few minutes, but it took a while to pay off and delayed your daggers coming out.

I'll have a look at the game later. Also USranktherxyy, you may want to calm down before posting.

USranktherxyy if you think ducks are too good try to play them yourself. When you lose then you will understand how to counter them

USranktherxyy I think you did ok overall.
  • Duck will naturally beat a larger army of Dagger since Duck is a lot slower. Dagger has the advantage of choosing where to fight and threatening more of the map.
  • The fight at 3:00 demonstrates this. Four Ducks kill three out of four Daggers with one loss. By waiting a few seconds you could have attacked with eight Daggers.
  • Use the speed advantage to repair your damaged Dagger.
  • Dagger has more line of sight as well, cementing the engagement advantage (maybe Duck is actually lacking in this area, something to think about for Amph balance).

A big important fight is at 5:00. 1040 metal in Dagger attacks 570 metal in Ducks and a Lotus. A big problem is that the Daggers are collectively at 70% health. The Daggers spread around while the Ducks clump up, fight on the retreat, and pick off Daggers. The Ducks take a lot of damage but only one die, while over half the Daggers die. Basically, attacking into this position is tricky, go around and force the Ducks to split.

Now Hover is behind. An army of Ducks camp near the Hover base, facing off against about 66% the value in Dagger. Sometimes the Daggers pop in to collect a few Duck missiles before running away. The Ducks also have a Limpet with them.

The situation you found yourself in at the end of the game is a generic one. Slower raiders beat faster raiders if:
  • The slower raiders can clump into a ball costing at least as much as the faster raiders.
  • The slower raiders pose an actual threat to something nearby.

Use mobility and pick off significantly smaller armies of slow raiders. Ignore larger armies of slow raiders if they aren't near anything important. If you actually have to kill Duck, then you cannot keep making Dagger. Make some turrets or some even slower units to efficiently dissuade the Ducks (ie riots), then use Dagger mobility to attack somewhere vulnerable.
