Hey folks.

Back in the day I used to make some maps for TA (Back in the good ol days of the buggy TAE!) - I've toyed with making some for Zero K, but I really don't know where to start - I had a quick look, but the only posts I could find for Map details were around 7 years old.

Where is the best spot to go to work out how to do this?

Also a question, do featured maps have to be roughly symmetric and what's the process for maps becoming featured?

The wiki is very helpful in many topics there I still learn something myself :)
There you will find a page about map creation, among other things.

Yes please make new Maps for Zero-K It's kind of sad to always play the same maps :(

Crude explanation:
No tagged Maps can be only played on a pw protected lobby - still tho you can remove pw direct after selecting map.
Supported Maps can be played on a *non autohost lobby*
Featured Maps can be played in every lobby.

have to be roughly symmetric

If you want your map to get featured i think so.

You ask on the Zero-K Forum Map Site - e.g. "can this map be supported/featured please?" > then admins wil take a look into it.

There are a decent number of asymmetric featured maps, particularly for teams. A map would generally have to be very close to symmetric to get into the matchmaker pool.

This is quite difficult - I think I borderline don't have the skills to do this.

Is this accurate for Zero K? https://springrts.com/wiki/Mapdev:Tutorial_Simple

I'm a little confused between what is specific for Zero k and what is general to spring.

Does a map contain:

> Heightmap is just a grayscale map, that is okay.
> A texturemap that kind of overlays this.
> Metalspot layout
> some other stuff.

Put into a program and compiled.

It looks like these wiki pages exist:
You probably have to ask around in Discord for everything. Please feed the wiki.

As far as I know, this is essentially it. Models for features have to be included and there are various ways to place them.

What I do know is that metal spots are supplied via a config file rather than as a greyscale map, and that startboxes should be included in a similar config file as well.
