Why no slow towers?

Why no fire towers?

Why are not all weapon types that units have available in tower form and vice-versa so that we can have newton units?

Genuinely curious how it hurts the game in your opinions.

IMHO, The most obvious problem is menu cluttering...

ZK has too many static defenses as it is. Adding more would only promote turret creep.

You can add, enable, disable, resize and move whatever you want. Go ahead and fix your menu.

The menu space limitation is a real problem because the menu would have to get larger and the hotkeys for the extra units would be silly. Although I think there is some room on the bottom row for another turret so we could take one turret.

Every possible unit does not exist because there would be role overlap and it would probably be boring. Units get character and a role from having a combination of many things. For example it has been said that Pyro has too many interesting things; jump, firing through units and DoT but it would not be Pyro without them.

So now to look at turrets; what would new turrets be for? What is their role? A slow beam tower would disrupt firing and movement for a single target. No turret does this but many do similar things. LLT and HLT kill single targets and Faraday has a similar disruption effect in a bit of an area. Newton messes with movement and is particularly good again planes. The current special turrets are underused so I don't think we need more.

A flame turret would deal large AoE damage in a relatively small range, this sounds a lot like Stardust.

This exists. Radar has 800 LOS and you can't complain about cost either.

They are all slow! They are all slower even than Sumo!

Why no fire towers?

They all fire! Check your settings, maybe you accidentially put them on hold Fire.

They all do! All turrets give LoS.

They all are! Use Hold Position if you want your units not to move.

There is! Annihilator has 780 LoS: prefect for scouting!

There is! To enable it, make sure Cloakyfac isn't in the disabled units modoption.

For useless porcers' enjoyment and their simbæs' variety, obviously

I fully agree that zk has lots of turrets and doesn't necessarily need more. A burning damage tower that shoots big Koda-like projectiles with AoE and low rate of fire for ~200m could be cool though, maybe with high range.

What you are looking for is a Kodachi.

But wait! There's more! It also comes with free movement ability!

The movement ability isn't free. Static units are cheaper or stronger for cost if you don't count movability to strength. As I said it is not necessary, but if there should be a new tower, then this one may be the least redundant.

Place the koda near a a shield or nano and it will now have more HP, making it like a tower to defend your base.

Sounds like Faraday with real damage or Stardust with continuous DPS. You can probably use either one to a very similar effect.

IMO ATM least redundant would be some form of submerged depthcharge launcher for underwater AoE that won't die to surface weaponry (existing UW AoE units - Hunter and Crusader - aren't submerged themselves), but an UW AoE Amph is shortly getting introduced by USrankRyMarq which is a superior option to a turret.

There's an obvious gap between HLT (~400 cost) and Annihilator/DDM (~1.8-2k cost) that I made the Sunlance to fill (it also takes the currently unoccupied anti-medium-assault role), but it never found the support needed for implementation.

It did find a job on the side in DOTA however!

Perhaps a bit of a gap is a good thing? Also DDM has cost 1200 for a while.

Sunlance is nice, very interesting to use and micro against big units

Stinger seems to deal with anything lighter than Reaper quite well, i'd say.

Why do we need a turret that counters units that are designed to counter the turrets?

Do we really want to make artillery more important? Do we really want the game to devolve into positional porc-artillery wars?
