I am going to spend alot of time listening to audiobooks and would like some advice on which to pick up. I guess I am assuming any good book would be a vailable in audio. Locus Nebula or Hugo?

Try Dune.

I quite liked Asimov's Foundation series books on paper, but haven't listened to audiobook versions. The quality of narration can make quite a difference I guess.

I'm not sure if you can get it as an audiobook, but Starship Troopers is a good one.

You guys think "The Maze Runner" film will be good?
P.S.: See Ender's Game too.

Damn, Banks, Ender and Blindsight were already mentioned, so i'm late to the party i guess.

Hyperion and Schismatrix were quite adequate and i would recommend them.

If i remember more i will post.

There one more that i do not remember the name that is about a ai that some dude digitized brain, Earth freeze, a colony is made in a Rogue planet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_planet) (no sun, so more stable was the AI think Suns are unstable), some "alien" find the ship and revert dude to "meat" human, etc...

Another one is about alien limited inside a nebula and do not know anything exist beside their solar system, so every time civilization grow too big there a war, and the get back to stone age or something, with time the future civilization know this and try to "save" a feel people put in sleep in a safe place till the war time end, so them make lottery, this repeats many times, and some random group of people are chose each time in hope some find a way to escape that "destiny", one time the most intelligent are saved, another time the most charismatics/beautiful, etc...

spoiler by the "nebula" become more thin and the last survivor see the rest of the universe and try to send a message back in time before dieing.*spoiler*

If some know the names of that 2 novels tell me, i really want to remember the names...

I will thus dispel the 10-long chain of fortaleza edits, and suggest another thing:

Diaspora.

Hyperion is 4 books long, and each book is worse than the previous. Read the 2nd one if you want to see how the dangling cliffhangers of the 1st wrap up, it's still pretty good and provides a real end to the story. The 3rd and 4th are a sequel, so they stand alone - they aren't *bad*, but they don't measure up to the first 2.

USrankran88dom99

The 2nd Neuromancer book actually sticks out a bit because it's a bit more "teen lit" than the first - the protagonists are teenagers. I read it back in highschool and it was my favourite Gibson novel back then.

Anyhow, if you like the cyberpunk genre, I highly recommend Neil Stephenson's "Snow Crash". It's a wonderfully weird cyberpunk book.

Also, everything @[DOOP]fortaleza mentions is awesome. I particularly recommend The Forever War. Also, if you get into Larry Niven's "Ringworld", it's good but I honestly think his short story anthologies are his best work - the various Beowulf Schaeffer and Gil Hamilton of Arm stories. That and "Protector".

Also, @[DOOP]fortaleza - the books sound *knid of* like the "The Mote in God's Eye" and "The Gripping Hand", but some of the details are different so I could be wrong. It's about aliens living in a nebula and trapped in a cycle of nuking themselves back into the stone-age, but the nebula doesn't thin and there's no lottery or anything.

Mote/Gripping Hand is a collaboration by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. Pournelle is somewhere to the right of Moussolini politically, so many of his books are thinly-disguised unpalatable political rants, but when he has Niven present to lighten the tone they produce some great stuff together, and the "Mote" books are one of their best.

Also, since we're talking about the classics (and if we're going to talk Heinlein, Moon is a Harsh Mistress is his best, not Starship Troopers) then I have to bring up the old Retief books by Keith Laumer. They're nice and light James-Bond-esque stories about a Diplomat of the Corps Diplomatique Terrestrienne, as kind of a satire of cold-war diplomacy in various 3rd-world countries.

Don't read anything Laumer wrote after his stroke, though. And honestly I can't stand his Bolo stories (about giant anthropomorphized tanks) but some folks love them.

Unfortunately is none of these, but The Mote in God's Eye looks good :)

Ok did find the first one is the "Passage Series":

Ah, so i'm not the only one who thinks/noticed the Hyperion books get worse as you progress from book to book.

USrankFealthas.

Yeah, still worth reading though. You just have to get over that letdown after you slog through another chapter entirely composed of retcons.

Seriously, single-author works have no excuse for correcting the past that often.

Hence Hyperion, not Hyperion and Endymion and whateverion. ^^

I just caught myself at not being to recollect what those other sequels were even named.

I think the Enderverse has this thing too. Ender's Game is brilliant, Xenocide is amazing, and after that it's just weird plot shit.

Could not find the second novel about "trapped" self nuking aliens, if you guys know more novel about it, beside "The Mote in God's Eye", say it name so i can check.
