Do you guys have particularly good autogroup schemes? Mine haphazardly grew as I stumbled my way through the different unit roles, but here goes:

1: Raiders
2: Skirmishers
3: Riots
4: Bombers -- Yep a key dedicated to Ravens right in the middle of the unit roles
5: Assault
6: Artillery
7: "Royal Guard" or units protecting the base or commander
8: AA
9: Special (Eraser)
0: Unused, once tried Central Build AI

For some reason, shield ball got its own layout. I guess this betrays the fact that I love felon ball.

1: Thug, Outlaw, Felon
2: Rogue
3: Bandit
4: Still Ravens
5: Constructors marked for use in the felon ball
6: Disarming Artillery
7: Constructors used for economy

Sometimes I think I need more autogroup keys. I'd be interested in hearing what you guys use, and how rigid/nuanced your autogroups are.

WTF. So many keys. I hardly ever use even key 5. 6? Nah, never.

My layout is dependent on the situation, except planes, in which:

1. - Vamps + Avengers (as fighters)
2. - Avengers (as scouts)
3. - Bombers (Ravens + Pphoenixes)
4. - Licho.

There is also one main rule - number 4. is always mobile AA, no matter what (when happens that I have both Licho and mobile AA, I put licho on 3).

Everything else is being changed flexibly.

I.e. when I need to have riots separated from assualts and raiders I put them on separate buttons (via ALT + number). When Im creating one huge force, to push through one point I simply put eveyrhting on 1 (via ALT). When Im trying to direct 3 attacks at different points at once, or at one point from different dirrections I use all 1 2 and 3 buttons (with CTRL).

Flexibility - thats all u need. For me buttons starting from 6 are simply too far away.

P.S.
I never put Skirmishers alone, as they die too quickly, tahts why I need only 3 buttons, not 4.

My autogroup scheme:

1. No autogroup.

Best autogroup ever.

6: Kinetic Artillery

I think you mean "EMP Artillery" here :P

Why not? You dont have to rape your CTRL + Z keys if u have it.

I don't use autogroup because it killed my ability to split up units, but my usual control groups are:
1: GLAIVES raiders
2: riots
3: assaults
4: skirms
5: bombers
6: AA
7: artillery
8-9: rare stuff
When playing some factories or multifronting they are different. For example, when playing tanks 1 is kodas and 2 is panthers because they are used very differently and there is no riot to take up group 2.

My schemes differ from game to game. I like to create ordinary groups for multifront and otherwise use autogroup for main battle front.
Also i have dedicated groups for stuff like air AA, bombers, gunships, raiders etc..

But there is just 10 numbers and i need way more group/types/schemes.

For me it is like this:
1. Main combat group
2. Second combat group OR raider group OR support/arty group
3. AA
4. Fighters
5. Raven spam
6-8. Other bombers or special units or stealth attacks etc.
9. Swarm of reclaiming cons

I actually broke them up so I could make multi-part line formations, specifically assault then riot in front, raiders just behind, skirms a bit further back. I wish ZK had a formation feature like 0AD.

1. Raider Bots/Scouts
2. Riot Bots/Raider Vehicles (Main bot combat group)
3. Riot Vehicles/Assault Vehicles/Skirmisher Bots (Main Vehicle combat group)
4. Artillery/AA
5. Secondary combat group, separates some units from autogroup for positioning
6. Factory #1
7. Factory #2
8. Worker #3
9. Worker #2
0. Worker #1

The factory and worker autogroups are an old StarCraft habit, since I don't like being at the other end of the map and having to click to build stuff if I need to change anything. Easier just to hit "6, alt+F, alt+F" to get emergency ticks (for example), then to click anywhere.

@Shadowfury
heard about chili factory panel / factory bar? I use it and can control all factories. Doesn't matter where on map

Note that I dont use autogrouping - I group things individually all the time by ctrl x most of the time (I honestly should start to use crtl z too).
My groups however vary a lot from match to match but generally they go by:
-raiders
- halaberds (because halaberds)
- skirmishers
- main battle group (generally assault and/or riot or sball for example)
- AA
- ravens
- swifts
- vamps i guess (wich i rarely use anyway)
When i dont have one group then the number below takes its place. For example if i dont have skirmishers then my main battle group is 2 instead of 3. Ofc i make exceptions for split raids, 2nd battlegroups etc.

That's first step to autogrouping, and then losing your ability to multifront. And then you also gradually lose your ability to multitask because it's less needed when not multifronting.

Well honestly the only problem i have found so far with it that I when i lose my outlaw in a sball then i forget to bring a new one to the ball. More often than not you just have to click the group button and then just ctrl x (since i play on max zoomed out most of the time anyway). I have been doing it since i started playing ZK and its really not much of an issue. Autogrouping imo is inconviniant because you want to switch your groups from time to time anyway (for split raid or whatever).

@Smaggy: I know of those widgets, I even use facpanel when casting, and I do use Core Selector when playing. However, that's still clicking. If there was a hotkey for each button on Core Selector then I wouldn't need the control groups.

Offtopic but I remember we discussed briefly some ideas about adding hotkey abilities to facpanel. Rather than brainstorming which hotkeys to steal, maybe it could just be configured in the epic menu with keybinds. Then you could bind something to first-in-the-list, second-in-the-list, and so on, or choose to just bind one key to all of them and cycle with that key.

Ontopic, I love autogroups. How do you play without them EErankAdminAnarchid? You didn't provide much detail. I remember GoogleFrog also said he doesn't use them and prefers select-visible-same (default is ctrl-x? can't remember).
