How does a 1000 ELO difference matchup happen?

Haha yes that was a bit wide.
I'll be turning the wide matchup off on this basis, but I don't see how that's fit for any purpose if it can do this.

(No offence @Inde_Irae !)

The range is 580, with a bit of squishing as you move away from 1500 elo. I think it was the win streak adjustment system that pushed the range out to 1000. Look at the recent game history of the two players.

I continue to have my doubts as to whether the winstreak adjustment system should exist.

Ah that fits. I was vaguely aware of that. I can't really speak to the system. @Inde_Irae did not sound particular satisfied by getting a win against the likes of me, but it's hard to know if it gave them a boost or not. As for me, I wasn't bothered, just surprised.

With my now vast experience of MM, I really like the way that handicap and wide options are implemented. I'd personally rather play 2v2 than 1v1 (or lobsterpots), but I've hardly ever seen even one person waiting for a teams MM. Could your preference for 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 etc also be (ranked) modifiers? Ideally there would be some feedback regarding the number of players that you had any compatibility with, which obviously "just works" with the current system.

I have played only a handful of mm teams games and they were not just spontaneous, but involved communication in order to get into the queue at the same time. For small teams I like the Palladium, but this has me thinking that maybe the reverse of this room should exist. (Or maybe three tiers of small teams games.)

I am sure that some people who are new to the game might enjoy small teams without getting totally clobbered by having to play against someone with much more experience/skill. I know this is something that I would be interested in if I were starting out a game for the first time.
