Neither of us played at all optimally but heavy tanks seemed at least viable against hovers, even on a huge map like this. I ran into some problems dealing with maces, and probably would have had problems with scalpels, but Kodachis yielded sufficient map control against Dagger spam that in the end superior econ won out.

Your Kodachis were completely destroying Orf's Daggers (as sensibly used Kodachis tend to do). When Orfelius switched to Maces your large attrition advantage disappeared quite quickly though.

Next time make some Banishers or commit to Reapers to deal with Maces. Banishers are the more cost effective option and a better counter to Maces, but can be countered relatively hard by several other hover units. Reapers are less great vs Maces, but they don't fear defenses and are a bit more difficult to hardcounter.

It gets tough when the hovercraft player starts making decent amounts of Scalpels. They are pretty good against Reapers, Banishers and even passable against both tank raiders. More experimentation might have to be done with Pillagers, although it's probably easier to just facswitch and spam Glaives or something. That's pretty much what happened here: http://zero-k.info/Battles/Detail/284093

Yes, Banishers crossed my mind in hindsight. Rapiers were not a great choice against Mace but given a numerical advantage they did the job.

Rapier, Reaper, Weaver, Reaver, Raider, Radar, Reef, Raven... Hard to keep track, I know.

I actually had Rapiers and Reapers :P the theory being that Rapiers would at least slow down the Maces enough for the Reapers to reliably chase and hit.
