shield is obviously detrimental

Small shieldball gets picked apart by those Scalpels as you can see.
He again overwhelmed you locally, and pretty much globally, with no good response to his scalpel raids on defenders and pene.

I see that Hover should overwhelm by numbers alone, especially with Scalpels, but correct me if I'm wrong, but daggers seem to be ouverused here

GS wasn't a good switch here, with Rapier+Brawler, but I think Flail is wtfop, high HP, high damage, 3.5 escape...
Perhaps Blastwing?

I would like to see how bandit zerg works out.

It's slower than dagger, but trades well and has better 'do' for threatening bases and scaling.

It should beat scalpel for cost.

It will beat halberd and penetrator for cost.

In theory, it looks like a maybe? Not much of the rest of the factory can stand up to scalpel though... But bandit good unit :) Dirt bags could even really help out vs. scalps and daggers...

Tbh I have better expectations for dirtbag than bandit. Bandit moves at a snail's pace, gets kited and aoe'd by daggers and scalpels and is susceptible to most defenses.

Huh? Yeah they're slowish for a raider I'll give you.

But they outrange them, and take 50% more shots to clear than glaives. They're also pretty good against all defenses except stardust (especially skydust). A defender won't make cost against bandit ball, bandits also tend to kill lotus for cost too. They may not have the dps of a glaive, but they start shooting earlier and more are shooting at a time.

If you're able to lead with a dirt bag or 2, bandit zerg should work, at least to the point where hover is forced to gets maces? Dunno... Wanna try it though.

Increased dirbag speed would really help with that kind of thing. They are painfully slow.

Dirtbag speed could happen. ATM they tend to not be used in shield ball because... shields... and they're not really used in more dynamic compositions because they're too slow to keep up w/ bandits, and don't really hotgroup with other units very well. It's a lot to ask to spend micro on 30 metal worth of unit, but the benefits just aren't there if you put them on the same hotkey as other unit types.
