  • Keep your constructors either working or moving right from the start of the game. Use queues of 2 to 3 buildings to keep them active.
  • Your Recon commander should be jumping between tasks.
  • Expand radially, with your commander going in one direction and one or two constructors going in another direction. This works for most maps.
  • Use Repeat on your factory to have it continually build raiders. Building raiders is often better than letting the metal do nothing.
  • Build a Caretaker at +20 metal income and every 10 metal income after that.
  • Have expanding constructors build radar every 1600 or so elmos.
  • Check whether 'select first factory' is bound to Alt+Q (I think it is by default). Press Alt+Q a few times whenever your metal seems high. This hotkey first selects your factory then non-repeatingly queues workers.

You usually want to make planes or gunships as soon as you can get away with it.

Once you have a fleet of Ravens/Locusts, go after whatever is bombable/raidable that would bottleneck your opponent the most: buildpower, energy, or mexes. In 1v1s, caretakers are typically the juiciest targets if you can manage it, followed by field constructors. There will almost always be mexes you can bomb, which is always good. If it looks like your opponent has been running lean, don't undervalue going after energy either, since your opponent can't soften an energy gap from reclaiming destroyed structures, and it can sometimes be a better starvation point.

In this game, you could have bombed my caretakers at pretty much any point, and I wouldn't have had the buildpower to make anything in time for the second wave. The second wave would then finish off any replacement buildpower I would have made, and probably the Fusion too, if the game had reached the point where I'd built it.

NZrankesainane that advice seems advanced. It hinges on "as soon as you can get away with it" and could easily backfire.
