Need a Dot Wars view of this.

We need a battle royale of CAIs, maybe with dead ones respawning

Just CAI's wouldn't be interesting. Grouping together all kinds of AI's which work for ZK, maybe fixing up Cran's so that it also works ...

Inb4 deinfreund's evil pather just runs everything over with glaives.

I don't think this is very interesting.

A good AI is designed to win the game, not just to emulate player behaviour. Because RTS/4x AIs are difficult to design in a way that wins the game using finesse, the best way to go about it in rts or 4x is (where applicable) design for indefinite snowballing of economy and attack strength.

FreeCiv AI is incapable of leveraging lead to wipe out opponents, result is dull stalemate.

I don't think this was a monoculture AI game (blog post suggested AI of different types competed). E.g. there's no "freeciv AI" which failed to obtain global dominance, instead none of the AI which managed to survive to endgame, succeeded to beat everyone else after getting to the equilibrium phase.

It would be interesting to see how their diplomacy worked. I can imagine well-tuned AI diplomacies being more stable than human FFA ones.

What's more disappointing to me is that they didn't color the map...
