first off, how do you know?
Mumble is actively encouraged among longer standing members. While you are working your ass off in game..how do you know there arent a few laughs going on in mumble as they skuttle you, or carry out their precision bombing raids?

Well, you dont. And you never will. Because its part of the game mechanics. As long as spectraitors are allowed then you must always consider that what you and your team are doing is available to the enemy. Kind of makes a mockery of it doesn it?

The argument goes that it is neccessary to learn the game etc. LOL? well no not really at all. Most people learn best from practise, not watching. Get rid of all these dead weight spectraitors ruining the game by informing in private chat channels, and being a new era of proper game play that can be taken seriously.

Most people aren't complete dickheads. Speccing is a part of the 1-room culture so nothing can be done anyway.

I'm pretty sure that if private spec-cheating was a thing, a lot more of the undefended singus that get built in team games would get killed.

Do you have any evidence that this happens in more than a very, very small fraction of games, if at all?

Suggested new commands:

!votemute spec (name) - mutes that spectator from using all-chat in game. Chat channels a: and s: are still allowed. Effective until game end/start.

!votemute spec all - mutes all spectators from using all-chat in game.Chat channels a: and s: are still allowed. Effective until game end/start.

!votemute echo (name) - lobby messages by that player are not echoed into the game chat. Effective until game end/start.

!votemute echo all - lobby messages are never echoed into the game chat. Effective until game end/start.

!votemute lobby (name) - player is unable to create messages in the lobby. If the vote fails, the player is still muted for 30 seconds. If the vote succeeds, the player is muted for 10 minutes or until game end/start.

!votemute pluk - mutes Firepluk permanently

!votemute pessimism - blocks all messages containing: resign, give_up, nub, nab, bored, sleepy, (additional character strings to be added later), or until game end/start. Players will recieve an automated spring message saying "your message was blocked by !votemute pessimism for containing (character string)"

!votemute elohell - blocks all in-game messages by players with 1800+ elo. Effective until game end/start.

!votemute god - blocks all messages by admins/mods. Effective until game end/start.

!votemute votemute - prevents any further usage of !votemute. Effective until game end/start.

David it might happen, but if it does it's not common.

I'm yet to see anyone with consistently lucky scouting/attacking. The cost to learning and quality of life from disallowing specs needs to be strongly justified. At this moment in time it's not.

I have to say I seen it once and promptly make the guy aware that it is not fun to do such thing after I whooped his butt regardless of this fact in 1v1.

If someone intentionally ruins game you always can just him for a while. No need to add needless 100 commands. And its not that someone just keeps ruining every other games because that, its extremely rare.

i have seen people spec cheat and get away with it.. then i tried to joke spec cheat and before the first scouts had made it midway i said "wow thats the fastest detri iv ever seen" .. bam kicked.. i guess i should have said thats the fastest iv ever seen somone finish a detri.. ill have to try to be more rediculous nextime.

i guess its possible on some non metal maps that people would still rush a detri O.o

If you've seen people spec cheat, then report it. If it happened in game chat, there is a record of that in the replay.

I think maybe some people take this game a little too seriously...

We've always known this might be a problem in the long term and maybe after steam release we might have to do something about it. If you want to fobid specs in your game you can, and maybe that should be facilitated mechanically at some point.

I woke up one day many months ago. I realised the futility of my efforts towards achieving victory in zero-k because of Firepluk. It's more fun to fuck around than it is to stress myself out trying to win.

It is a non-existent problem. If someone was doing this, there'd be a pattern that would be easily shown. The amount of effort and risk involved with getting caught is not worth the end effect. One must ask, why go to all the effort to speccheat when you don't even achieve/gain anything anyways? In my probably outspoken opinion, people are just making up "problems" in their anger and frustration over the game's outcome. It's completely unreasonable to bar spectators from a game over irrational suspicion.

Unless there is money on the line, I don't really see a huge problem having spectators. Since we don't run money tournaments, it's probably not a big deal.

Granted, if people are worried about it despite no monetary reward, I'd still say that outside of tournaments the risk of spectators cheating is more annoying than anything. Not reason enough to completely disallow spectating in regular matches, just report the offending spectators. Maybe if people are really concerned in tournaments, they could request no spectators (besides the commentators, note the stream is delayed).
