Hi

I´m working on a new model for the Penetrator. But before i^m putting more work into it i would like to get some feedback :). espacially if there is a chance that it will be used when finished.

Still very early wip, but i think it will have around 3-4k tris when finished and cleaned up.

Wow, that does look pretty freaking awesome.

Hard to tell from the angles, but make sure you keep the barrel relatively high so that it can shoot over other units/wrecks like the current Penetrator can.

Wow that is completely amazing LordMuffe! Its great to see your talent going to work on a Zero-K model.

Aesthetically, its gorgeous (though of course, so much of a model is in the texture). Practically, as antelope said, the penetrator currently has a very high turret so that it can shoot over friendly units. Also, if the model is too long, it may clip into other units the way that ships do, or take up a disproportionate footprint size, though it shouldnt be too bad with its current dimensions. One solution to the turret height issue is just to make the unit float higher, if you dont want to change the design.

The Penetrator model we have already is fairly decent though. While its texture is lackluster, the geometry is fairly solid. So one solution is just to adapt this as the Mace (Mumbo, the laser riot hover), which would mean you wouldnt have to raise the turret (though you may need to shorten the barrel length slightly).

Either way, if you make a really gorgeous model, we will include it one way or another.

Maybe a Pillager replacement? The Pillager is a bit meh atm. You can tell it is just a higher-poly version of the original *A unit.

Mr.D models are among the lowest priority to replace, since they are attractive, role-fitting and have good distance visibility and differentiation.

Hovercraft are mostly cut-and-paste jobs and are among the higher-priority-to-replace units (though well below many ships and mechs).

I think the model is really good and that current Pene is quite a bad model, it is extremely angular and has very little detailed.

This model is perfect except for the proportions that others have pointed out. We'd like to keep the current unit specifications for height and size. The turret holder needs to be higher and it should not be so long and thin, other than that it is great.

As for Mace, this wouldn't fit as Mace and I think it is a really bad idea to try. Mainly the gun is far too big for Mace. It's perfect for Pene though so I don't think you should redo that at all.

Maces gun also needs to be higher, but that is something for another model.

But I don't know why you have made the bottom so detailed - you can see the mesh details below the hover-box only from one of your presented angles...

I would close the bottom boxes and save very much poligons there.
If you make the gun a bit shorter and the both boxes at the front too, you don't need this details anyway.

But beside this - really good job.
If see the texture at 2011-12-24_00:00am and I'm even more happy :D

I like how the gun is not as oversized as the current one. Length is a must, but the width's insane - so I prefer yours.

I tried to increase the turret hight while emphasizing the brittleness of the unit. This is still a wip, did not come out as i imagined it. The torso was compressed a bit to make the unit shorter.



Hope the properties are now acceptable :)

The "hidden" details at the torso could be left out. But I don't see really a reasn for that: the penetrator is not a mass spamed unit, so the few extra tris are not that bad. And when destroyed, the wreckage looks less bland when the armor plates are removed.
It is quite easy to remove the "wholes" later if necessary anyway.

About the texture: people who are familiar with my painting skills will agree that i will not be able to create a texture which fits the rest of the hovers crafts or other zk units. So if anyone wants to texture it instead...

Lookin prety sweet

I can't wait to see this in game. Easily one of the best looking units I've ever seen on ZK. The only one that comes close is the Scorpion model.

Your texture quality isnt so bad Muffe. At the very least, this will be a nightmare to uvmap for me. If you want to do a texture, i can edit it to match anything else fairly easily.

The height on the new model looks good and more than sufficient enough.
