Nice idea:
* Called Warp cannon battery
* Same damage, cost and burst as defender
* Can shot through anything, but Shorter ranged - like stardust

If it should get more unique make one of:
* 30 metal, only 1 shot and LLT range - light field defense against scouts or to to uncloak cloaked units
* 160 metal, 6 shots - heavy stand-alone point defense, can be drained with dirtboxes or assaults.

I want something in range of 300 metal that is solo.

Faraday+LLT don't work if Faraday blocks the LOS for the LLT.
Stardust don't work if there are too big wreckages hills.

I need one defense structure in the 300 metal range which is easy to use, not too efficient.

Or ligth anti scout turrets which are more scaleable than 1 LLT ( you can't spam them everywhere at low metal ) and MTs have nice range, but get blocked by trees and rocks - which can 1/3 their damage output.

If raiders can beat 2 solars and 2 mexes, at least 3 raiders should die to 180 metal defense.
if you use your solars well to tank damage and warp cannons hide behind them better than LLTs can, you should be able to kill 4 instead of 2 raiders ( please notice how many solars you need to protect your defense ).

It is silly that glaives can shot over solars to beat LLTs and stay close enough to be out of the LLT's LOS.
It is also silly that you neeed 2 LLTs but have effectively only 1 at your base.

To me this means you can target anything in it's range regardless of blocking. It means you can shoot through enemies to hit enemies.

Like Merl with an infinite projectile speed and a new impact effect.
Or give it a merl-like invisible fake weapon and cause damage directly/instantly.

Couple of reasons I don't like this:

1) It's another weapon type. Wherever possible, existing weapon types should be used. A Vlaunch missile with a very high trajectory and homing would have many of the same powers thereof.

2) The defense list in ZK is already very long, particularly mid-priced land-based defenses.

3) It's counterintuitive... players want to be able to see what shot them. The Sharpshooter justifies the fact that you can't see the firer because that's the entire point of the unit.

That said, I do see the need for some kind of anti-scout defense that handles the problem of enemy units that invade into the interior of your territory. LLTs and MTs fail hard when you get a Custodian or the Factory blocking their shot, and the scout/raider game is vicious to newbs for this reason. Having some way to say "I suck, I don't think I can clear an invader out from my eco" at the very beginning would be handy. Building solars instead of windgens helps, but it isn't enough.

But I'd rather see if there was some way to make this happen without adding yet-another-defense. Is there any way we could make an existing defense get this ability? Like modifying MTs to fire at a raised angle?

MTs are meant to be AA they fail to trees very hard.

We could replace Pitbull with this kind of weapon, but it has to be cheaper ( about 300 metal? )
That would make it more unique compared to Stinger and still beat shielded units.

If we do so, all good anti ground weapons would have close abilities.

I more asked because Dominatrix may benefit from such a weapon. You would still draw the beam but it would only hit the unit you aimed at. This is to address complaints of rapid retargeting.
