What should be the rules for post editing?
What forum feature is needed?

Just mark the post edited... If you want to be really fancy, add a hidden div with the original, although that would create some storage overhead.

To prevent edit confusion you could limit edits to posts made under an hour and that are the last in their thread.

I say no limits whatsoever on editing, just like on most forum. Maybe have it display a message that says "This post was last edited on Date". Other forum feature we need would be quote, and we're set.
EDIT: OMG I EDIT

Moderators and poster can edit a post. No limits on editing. Add a 'Edited # hours ago' message under the '# hours ago' message, next to the icon (there is plenty of room).
Thus:

Exactly what Saktoth said just without the moderators stuff. Mods should NOT be ably to edit users posts, that's just a silly trolly idea.

I delete posts instead of editing them. Like Neonstorms. All the time.
It would be good to have a 'split topics' or 'move posts' option too, so you can split threads when they stray off topic. That isn't all that mandatory though.

The reason i put the edit button under the '# hours ago' is to not increase the minimum height of a message. It is a small thing, and other than that, great work (with a diff too!). Increasing height by 3+ lines is not ideal.

Use pages in threads, and maybe custom avatars if you have time.

On edit, when I try to edit my post it says I don't have permission. I don't know if you are finished with it yet.
Edit: Fixed

Btw threads have pages but it seemed more annoying than simple scroll .. so i set page size to 1000 :)

Maybe, but it is harder to find a particular post, or reach the end of a really long thread with the scrolling. Not a big issue.
By the way, it appears that the handy post order flipping while posting has either been removed or broken.

Can we disallow double posts now?
There is no reson for that if you can edit your last post.
( Auto-merge could do the same thing too. )
Would it be a good idea to add an [+], [-] button to collapse big posts?
Or an [hr]-bb tag to split your post into a preview and full post?
( If it is not too much of work ).
