The share menu and player list have been replaced by a new combined player list. Press the tab key to display it.

Here's a quick explanation of what the different elements represent:

This is an improvement, but I think it looks too crowded around player names with badges and so much info displayed through icons. Badges aren't really relevant ingame.

I would like to see it without the bold font for names and titles.

Info about specs taking up so much of the screen seems not useful.

EDIT: This is currently bound to the same key as COFC overview camera

The spectators are cut off if there are more players, meaning you'll have to scroll down to see them. If you think it'd be better to cut them off by default, I could do that as well. I could imagine it helping to lead the focus more towards the players.

The idea behind the centralized and big lettered player names is exactly that. Giving you an easy focus on the important things, which is who are your teammates and who are your enemies. The less important things are pushed to the side and displayed in darker font.

Badges will be rarer after steaming, meaning this space should be free most of the time. They "have to" be there to reward donators.

The new defaults have overview bound to ctrl+tab. If you're using custom keybinds, adjust them as you like.

It might seem crowed because we are not used to decypher it. With time, we will learn to look at exactly the info we want and it will likely look more readable.

Personally, I never use zoom-out with tab so i would prefer keeping tab for player list (and it is the default key for any game), fwiw.

I have not made any changes to keybindings from default. For me both tab and ctrl-tab are COFC overview.

I've tried "Neuter Settings" in chobby but that seems not to do anything.

COFC isn't even enabled per default.

Well, I had to unbind COFC Tab as well, but I really like this playerlist setup. I guess I don't really care about the overview hotkey anyway, since I use the "Tilt Camera while Zooming" and "Zoom out to center" COFC options, which means any full zoom-out is the same as hitting the overview button/hotkey.

COFC Overview should probably be unbound by default.

Badges look aligned so that only 2 fit. What if someone has 3?

That's the whole point. It should be intuitive enough not to look cyphered.

People with 3 badges will have one taken away and given to the plebs, we need to support communism.

The colors should help identify the number's meaning, but if you come up with something better, let me know. It seemed more important to have it compact and quick to read (once you know how to) that a full description next to everything.

The layout is somewhat chaotic because active elements are spread so wide..

I would recommend:

  • clump active buttons together
  • show active buttons ONLY when you hover the player (otherwise too much clutter)
  • remove ping value (it can be just in tooltip, icon is enough for glance info, 600ms wont tell much and feels huge already!)
  • provide tooltips for other values (what is red and blue number explanation)

Theoretically everything should have tooltips, but the documentation doesn't tell me why the tooltips aren't showing. How do I make them work?

I'm not so sure about hiding or moving the buttons. If they're not in the same spot for every player it gets a lot more time consuming to use the list.

Every online game I know shows ping in the playerlist. I think you should be able to directly see when somebody is having connection issues. A possibility would be making the <500ms font even less noticeable and maybe raising the limit to 700ms or so.

Oh hiding would be for entire "player" area..
So whenever you are close to player's name or anything else in a huge rectangle, you would show all the buttons.

Yes, that's how I understood it as well. I still don't quite see the advantage in that. It hides parts of the UI, making it harder to see what options are available.

It hides the clutter of unimportant things.
It's good idea in general, to hide less commonly used elements to make the GUI nice and clean while keeping advanced elements discoverable.

How many times you need to kick someone? Send metal? Commshare?
Compare with:
How many times you check the playerlist?

Likewise I'm not saying ping should be hidden completely, but that it should be in tooltip and icon could indicate general network health (because people wont realize 600 is not 'horrible lag' but actually a normal value)

As far as I'm concerned, the important information in playerlist for playing the game is:

Player name, army values, resource status, ping, sharing buttons

Stuff which is just clutter and makes the game harder to play:

Avatars, badges, player kick buttons

The latter list takes up approximately half of the space in this panel.

I don't see myself ever wanting to use this as it currently exists. This is not primarily criticism of your work; it is criticism of the design specifications which you were given.

A player list in the loading screen or pre/postgame is an appropriate place for avatars and badges. The game-playing playerlist, which is supposed to help me play the game, is not an appropriate place for them.

Looks too cluttered. All the useful player information is crammed on the right side of the display as a set of differently coloured numbers.

  • Make the badges smaller and put them on the bottom left of the avatar.
  • Put the commshare button with the other buttons.
  • Spread the red and blue numbers out to take the current badge space and apply some icons as explanation.
  • Move the resource bars down to the bottom level and make them a bit wider with the newfound space.
  • Move ping the current resource bar spot, add CPU.
  • Change player icon order to Flag Rank Clan to match lobby and site.

This design gives the game-relevant actions more room and a theme for both rows. The top row is player information and actions (flag, rank, clan, name, kick, ping/cpu) while the bottom row is ingame information and actions (share, send metal, send energy, commshare, total red units, total blue units, economy).

Also for logical reasons, button to send metal could be close to metal, or even skipped (and metal bar made into a give metal button and energy bar energy give button).

I would still hide the kick/give units/commshare buttons when not hovering area, to reduce the clutter significantly.
You dont need to see N*5 buttons you will never press but are identical for each N

More complicated than it seems, to create the perfect playerlist...
