I dont play air but I feel for them not able to reclaim metal fields. I know this was talked some time ago.
There could be "transporter" with no attack ability which could take metal wrecks and bring them back to safety so air player can reclaim them.
Or even better just give current transporters ability to pick metal wrecks as well as units? Just give 1 tranporter to planes?

Currently if you lucky with com you can kick wreck a bit.

From balance point tranporters carying metal wrecks can move slower?

A wreck transporter will have the same weakness as air cons reclaiming in front: AA will shut them down quickly.

To avoid this, you can give higher HP to wreck transporter, but it would break balance.

If this transport can just pick 1 wreck at a time, this is going to be absolutely inefficient.

I have a better idea. Just make the Lobster -- the unit thrower from the Amph fac -- have the ability to throw wrecks. That way, it can move unit wrecks to safety to be reclaimed or resurrected, or deny them to enemies. It could also throw wrecks out of water and onto land to allow land-restricted constructors to use them.

+1 Lobster throwing wrecks. It should be able to throw rocks, maybe trees, so wrecks as another Feature would fit that.

We threw around concepts with Jumpbot factory of there being a wreck-theme. Say a tank unit that uses wreck metal as a shield, or wreck metal to regenerate itself. Or a skirmisher that shoots wreck metal (or puppies). Or more stuff that uses goo.

This never materialized and we added Placeholder and gave Moderator damage instead of more wreck-themed units.

there could be a unit like sumo that would act like a giant magnet, pulling or pushing everything around it, including wrecks.

Wrecks have particularly janky physics so no throwing is likely to occur. Transports would probably transport wrecks if it was the engine-default but I don't know whether it would be a good idea.

Why can't you use puppies to grey goo up wreaks and then reclaim the puppies for metal?

Puppies convert very inefficiently, and reclaiming them is even less efficient. It's just not a good idea.

Latest stable has 100% efficient puppy reclaim.

Since throwing live puppies into the meatgrinder is 50% efficient, this is actually better value than using constructors to reclaim on-site.

This is even more efficient than rez because rez requires energy to be spent.

Ivand has implementation of transportable wrecks but there are numerous problems to tackle with it.

I think wreck transporting is fine, as long there are no issues. I can envisage many technical and UI issues that need to be overcome.
