It's a complain I've heard quite a few times and I agree. What do you think?

As someone who has spent two years tuning Circuit AI config: what do you mean? What makes Easy AI too easy, and Normal AI too hard?

Shouldn't Normal AI beat a regular, non-vet player about 50% of the time?

Easy AI doesn't really seem to do too much.

Normal AI expands well and if you don't jump on it right away, it will maul you. Frankly I see relatively minor differences in the steps between Normal, Hard and Brutal. The step up from Easy to Normal is a big one.

That said, I'm not entirely sure whether an intermediate step between Easy and Normal is necessary. I see Easy as a "testing" AI where I want to set up a particular strategy to see if it works without pressure. Normal and up I see as legitimate pressure testing of an idea.

Maybe there should be a cheating AI above Brutal level. Say, where it gets an extra 20% income? Or two free facs instead of 1?

Last I checked the biggest gap was from Normal to Hard IMO, but perhaps the configs have changed since then.

I'll play all difficulties again and provide more constructive feedback. For now I just wanted to raise discussion around the subject.

The main first impression is the number of actions it performs per second.

I've watched some twitch campaign streams playing on Normal and the AI feels pretty weak yet capable there. I think it's well tuned at least for the campaign.

IIRC one of the limits of the Normal AI is the share of the map it is allowed to take, besides order delays and tech restrictions like "no nuking the losters".

I think the gap from Normal to Hard is pretty big. On normal I won first three missions on first try, on hard I get decimated on first mission. But hard should be hard so I think it's great

Circuit's AI Brutal will shortly be getting.. more Brutal (its using bombers competently now, hooray!), as further commits are made. I don't think it needs to cheat.

Easy AI doesn't try to win really, it just provides a token opponent. Normal AI tries to win, but not very competently

Cheating AI would be *boring*. Currently ZK has this thing where we can say that other games made a weak AI and gave it cheats to make it harder, while we made a strong fair AI and had to nerf it to not scare players away.

I would not like to renege on this promise :P

Instead of a cheating AI, you can play against multiple AIs if Brutal becomes too easy.

Sorry if I'm late late to the thread, but I want to add a comment.

Beating the campaign normal AI is very easy. Beating skirmish normal AI is very difficult.

I'm pretty sure its the same AI - main difference is in the campaign you normally have an advantage (in the early missions) or lots of infrastructure made for you (in the later missions).

MXrankmoleculeman88 try 2 aiBrutal and win consistently.
Also about Batman-Ai i think USrankBatman and DErankRobin would not be amused...

Actually, I'm not sure. It might just be the case that the skirmish normal AI performs very well on certain maps. (Or that I perform very bad.) I should probably be quiet about the AI from now on.
