athena is strong because it can fly and create cloaked builders and recluse.. might be too op..

but try reclaiming lab and you can still get an athena about the same time that its rapid expansion abilities become possible to counter. with the conventional labs..

else most people will use it to plonk a tonn of invisible builders all over the map and expand so fast it will make your head spin

back in the day, athena was once ploppable as start fac but that was removed. i dont know the reasoning and the discussion about this is somewhere here in the forum.

what you got out of this was, athena rushes towards the middle of the map (it could build other things at this time too).

I think the solution here is to make a spider commander with a cloak at spawn. Would allow forward expansion, but not super fast spec ops plane. Spider could be a 1 weapon commander, maybe like a super death ray for special. I saw someone taling about spider commander on earlier post and I think it would be a great addition.

apart from spider part you can cloak your com and give it a "super death ray" recon coms jump is already op way to go fast over hills

recon is nice, but some maps play more to a buffer up weaver than jump pack. An immediate push toward an elevated position, maybe a forward radar, maybe spider base on top of a mountain. I feel it is unique enough that it would have its place. Some maps are mountainy, sometimes I dont want to have to press j then regive orders every time. It would just be fun to have and though the hole it would fill isn't neccesarily that important of one, it still exists that no commander can move over all terrain without giving jump orders. Im just spouting an idea out, I had heard of spider commander's and think it could be a fun addition if not the biggest of additions. Is it really so much to want some spider roleplay? I would enjoy and use it.

and when you lose athena to anything, its like factory loss

hmmm i can still see it becoming the new meta overnight.. it will be the new strategy.. almost all will start Athena and then switch into facs after expanding.. dropping off a con at each main location

If Athena was changed into "commander" its construction options would ahve to be changed to mirror other commanders or it would be very OP.

If Athena was a commander:
- It would be five times faster than the Recon commander (43 vs 210)
- It could run around the map at its 210 speed, making mexes everywhere(commanders can make mexes)

Right until someone starts planes and kills the Athena in the first two minutes. Then ZK devolves into a pregame RPS:
- Start Athena, win against normal facs
- Start Planes, win against athena
- Start normal fac, win against planes.

engineer variant of crow with no bombs? Maybe add an extra lazer so it has 4 and maybe a bit of a speed decrease. It would be useful if you have other krows raiding mexes to have the option for heavy engineer support. Maybe even hp buff also for engineer variant? I find bombs so useful for raiding that I feel a variant would act very different and very well ingame, but would need some buffs (nerfs) in other ways to act unique. Maybe even drone bay(s)? Healing drones maybe? just some ideas.

athena wouldnt be op. you lose athena to anything, including glaive or picket rocket,.

also no voodoo, just make athena start plopable, after which commander wont be able to build it

or at least make strider hub plopable... to have athena and ultimatum available anti other 2km units when rushed..

Ploppable Strider Hub (or Athena for that matter) would give you free buildpower to put towards rushing something quickly in large team games.

It's a niche application, but somewhat relevant in the right situation (and probably unhealthy).

if (noob) add "Striders are very expensive units, that you cant afford at start unless you know what youre doing" to lab description tooltip.
the wellbeing of individual outweights the wellbeing of many potential nubs. unless youre fun police and you were raised with idea that skateboarding is a crime... then nothing will help you :(
