Vamp vs Avenger

Just looking at the stats on the manual, I've no idea why the vamp exists.

Avenger is 50% cheaper, 30% faster and has 2/3 the AA DPS of the Vamp. Not to mention that having a 160 burst damage missile that rarely misses is worth alot as salvoes can prevent that Licho from dropping the nuke or a krow from getting away.
It can also shoot ground! (although it's pretty useless at it)

The only advantage the Vamp has is hp, having 3.75 times more hp than an avenger. So Vamps can distract enemy AA far better than Avengers, especially flak AA. (unless you're trying to suck up the missiles of a screamer, then gnat wins hands down)

Therefore, unless you expect to have to fly over enemy territory chasing aircraft, there's no point building vamps. Avengers are better AA than the vamp.

Another thing is that I often see fighters overtaking their targets (they're faster than bombers and gunships), so much so that they can't really stop their targets at all, only ensure the targets don't get away alive.
There ought to be a widget that slows the fighter down to it's target's speed when it's firing. A trick could be to write a widget that hits wait commands to prevent fighters overtaking targets. (I can't do this, its just hypothetical)

Vamp being slower makes it better in some ways, given that it doesn't overshoot its targets as quickly (As you mentioned in one of your paragraphs).

Theoretically, avenger is the quick response fighter, better against bombers and some light ground, while vamp is the heavy air-superiority fighter, better against fighters and gunships.

Another difference: vamp survive from limited AA in chasing bombers/other air into Enemy AA zone.

What vamps need is a burst weapon like avenger.

vamps are the superiority fighter.

this means they are used for air DOMINANCE not anti bomber.

when late game and enemy has a fighter shield in a fighter vs fighter scenario vamps will fair better

> vamps are the superiority fighter.
Exactly. The health of Vamp means it can beat Avenger and Rapier, especially once armies become large as burst damage is a disadvantage in that situation.

Avenger is for killing aircraft that cannot shoot back and it has the speed to respond quickly.

vamp is no where close to an "air superiority" it cant kill anything for sht it can live fine and dandy so then when air comes and kills ur base u will atleast have a vamp or 2 floating around....thats very useful. a defender is more useful

You don't make a compelling argument with ranting; you make it with stats comparison and testing data.

I consider that to be a problem with rapier, it is much too strong.
