UI problems with a new installation

After a few months far from Zero-K, and for some reason my Zero-K install having disappeared, I have reinstalled it and attempted tweak the interface as it was, I noted a few problems:

With Ctrl-F11 now being for tweaking the interface elements, how do I enable/disable widgets that aren't in the menu? At some point, when starting a skirmish for testing purposes, a F11 displayed the menu once (before selecting Commanders), but after closing it, the F11 key opens the lobby again, and not sure I can reproduce it again.
Specifically, it was the Icon Zoom Transition widget, which, by the way, why isn't accessible through the menu? I cannot be the only one wanting to have icons always visible in addition to models.

I have attempted to change tactics and make buried mexes, but impossible to do it. Be it with area or directly, it doesn't seem to take structure terraform into account. Maybe that's forbidden for gameplay reasons, though - then maybe we should put it in the unit description. (Maybe it is possible with a widget that make a hole on the metal spot first?=
Alternatively, I thought about putting a wall around them, but then while I'm pretty sure there is a shortcut to wall a building, I couldn't find it - there may be some way to better inform the player about it.

Also, after a few months, the player list on the right is kind of jarring, with the colours with no background sometimes making it hard to read. I haven't found a shortcut to toggle the list, but it may be a good idea to have one.

Alt-F11

The main options menu is already pretty bloated and cannot hope to have every possible thing that anybody could want by default.

The ground underneath existing structures cannot be terraformed. If when you are building a structure you hold the LMB down until a height indicator appears, then drag upwards or downwards, your constructor will terraform to the desired height before beginning building construction.

Thanks for the prompt answers!

Alt-F11 doesn't work for me. And I'm pretty certain that one time it was F11 alone. Are there known things that could interfere with Alt?

That's a shame. The first time I ran Zero-K, I remember searching everywhere in the menu for the option, as it felt like what should have been the default. I wonder how many players are in the same case, maybe I'm a lone deviant?

With further testing, I could make it work with B and C/V for height modifier (or keeping LMB down until the height indicator appears), when building them individually the hard way. No luck with the area mex or even the right-click-near-a-mex, though, so that's still not really an option.
Still no luck with walling, though.

On the subject, I recently discovered the alt-area-mex for surrounding them with solar collectors in a cast, but I couldn't find any info on that in the game itself. I couldn't find a loading screen with the tip either. Or is it considered not a good tactic anyway?

It's not considered a good tactic, generally it's more effective to just build lines of Solars to more efficiently connect Mexes for Overdrive. I mentioned it in that cast for completeness's sake (and in general alt+clicking on a building will surround that building with whatever is currently lined up for construction), but for solars around mexes it's not worth it.
