Is Zero-K the most active SpringRTS game?

AdmiralZeech 4 years ago I've heard that Zero K and Balanced Annihilation are the biggest of the SpringRTS games (or was it BTA and NOTA?), but a quick search of youtube shows the most recent tournament vids or shoutcasts of BTA and NOTA are at least two years old. Whereas Zero-K still gets regular tournament videos thanks to ShadowFury333. Is Zero-K the biggest SpringRTS game? Is it the only one that's "alive"? +0 / -0
Aquanim 4 years ago To my knowledge in recent years, among Spring games BA would have been most comparable to Zero-K in terms of community size. In the last year or two BA has unfortunately suffered some divisions in its community and developer team which have probably impacted its popularity. +5 / -0

Oflameo 4 years ago We have Evolution RTS from [Evo]ForbodingAngel and others. They beat Zero-K to Itch.io. I don't know if Zero-K is bigger than Evolution RTS. +0 / -0

SmokeDragon 4 years ago (edited 4 years ago) Ba as i remember it was a fine cream of pure toxic unfriendliness towards new-people.. only the most acid proof could survive long enough to breed any form of skills and join the VIP circle-fap i played BA for a long time.. was fun.. but i like zk better because here is more like family i have even seen forum enemies share units to each-other in zk its almost as if some people here have not forgotten what an online game is really all about BA is like separate players even on the same team.. buy t2 .. pfft never even seen a zero k player try sell units +4 / -0
Sodbuster 4 years ago I think smoke dragon is being rather harsh on BA. I started playing ~2015/16 and I really didn't find it that unfriendly to noobs; any pc gamer than lived through the 1990's should have thick skin. Regarding EvoRTS, nobody plays that, not sure why its even mentioned here; it is irrelevant. For years BA has had daily 8v8's and lots of FFA's up until about a month ago when spring engine 103 got banned from the official spring lobby (be happy ZK went standalone) to force BA onto the new engine. This has essentially killed BA. Prior to this ban, BA probably has more large games each day than ZK. ZK certainly peaks higher (32v32), but BA was more consistent it seemed. Now there are some 3v3/4v4's on TechA and some 2v2's on S1944; but since the engine 103 ban, BA has died. ZeroK has supplanted BA as the most popular springRTS mod. ZK being on steam probably helps with userbase. +2 / -0
raaar 4 years ago About BA, spring 103 didn't get banned, it just got restricted to rooms with 8 players max for autohosts (i think). Also, this limitation refers to a particular BA version, 9.46, which many people stuck to, BA community has had BA 10.x to play with the later engine versions and could have easily stuck with it instead and made balance adjustments if necessary. Evo rts got a popularity spike when it did a steam release a few years before ZK and brought many players into spring games, although with some confusion. It still has some activity on the discord channel, but indeed seems to have little pvp games on the spring server. It's kind of sad seeing people calling it "irrelevant". +3 / -0

moleculeman88 4 years ago zero-k is the best among rts games. truly it is king of spring software. pioneering for the whole spring community. it beats starcraft at logistic and having multiplying factories. it has one race and starcraft 3 but still the gameplay and speed it's better then starcraft 2. this really use all the power of your brain to win in zero-k. +2 / -0
SmokeDragon 4 years ago or you can make bertha.. lel no brain power needed you can play while learning piano infact i bet you could get two computers and make a bertha on each side of a multiplayer game.. that way you get twice as much bertha per minute of life-force +3 / -0
