Hello,

I have been trying out map creation in Zero K using springmapedit, a tool I found. However, I'm at a loss as to how I can actually upload a map so I can play it with my friends. When I tried to upload the map I thought I had done so successfully, but I wasn't able to find the map in game or on the Zero K map site. Could anyone elaborate a little bit on the process of uploading a map? I haven't found any clear guides.

As far as I know you put it here:

under Play -> Maps.

Once it is uploaded you should be able to find its map page. To host it use a custom passworded host as it won't have any supported level. Comment on the map page to get a supported level.

When I try to do that, this is what I get.

Resource upload results
Registration results
File name Name Author Status Link
tundrachicken.sd7 tundramap RegistrationError Link

The link just leads back to the usual map page, and when I search for my map, nothing shows up.

Server logs indicate your map might be missing a .smd file in the maps subdirectory.

I didn't get an .smd file when I saved my map. What is it?

Hmm... maps used to use .smd files for some map information but normally these days that is done with a mapinfo.lua file instead. Perhaps your map is configured in such a way that it expects a .smd file for some reason. Hard to guess why without being able to see the map file, could you upload it to a file sharing site or something so we can find the issue?

Hi!

Today, after checking and fixing locally, we uploaded a map so we can play it with the team... After some suggestions, we improved a few points, and now, when we try to upload it again, an "AlreadyExists" status shows up. It is ok and true, but now the point is: how can we update our existing map? Can we? There are some other details we have to find a fix (e.g. grass doesn't show up yet), and would be good to be able to upload a few improved versions...

For this time, we just incremented version, and then it works, but does it replace older file, and is the way it is expected to do? (I mean: is it the polite way to do it, or there's a "cheaper" way instead?)

Thanks!!

Incrementing version is how you're supposed to do it.

Ok then, thank you for quick response. I was wondering if was the right way, because now both versions are reachable, but it may also make sense sometimes. Anyway, will try to upload only a few releases on a given map.

If somebody wants to watch a replay of a game played on an older version of the map it is good if that map version is still available.
