Starlight borked?

My starlight in this game would not shoot targets on the ground: http://zero-k.info/Battles/Detail/985889

Instead it shot upwards into the air. I tried the following to no avail:

Powered off and on
Partially recycled and rebuilt the starlight
Leveled the terrain around it
Alternated between close and far targets
Targeted at ground, visible units and radar signatures

Is this a known bug?

Similar thing happened to me when it got blown up while rising and the "Glint" survived Starliughts death. After Rezing Starlight glint wasnt connected anymore.

Otherwise i only know of some ta rgeting issues.
- Mexes, especially mid-long range
- Units (especially badger) on slopes matching starlights angle.

This is from a mod. Have you observed the behavior in ZK stable/test? In all likelihood it may be something mod side.

i have no idea why it happens but in the mod certain units, specifically gauss and starlight, have this strange tendency to go sideways when they level up. I dont know why exactly but if I were to make a guess it probably has to do with piece scaling.

EErankAdminAnarchid may know. They are relatively recent models and both his, so it could be to do with workflow.

also its the chisel that levels up, rather than the starlight itself lol. that's... interesting

IIRC Spring makes collada models rotate correctly by:
- Creating a virtual Scene piece that contains every other piece of the model as its children
- Rotating that Scene piece 90 degrees along X-axis to get Z to point upwards.

If your matrix stuff changes the transform of the Scene piece and resets its rotation to 0,0,0, you'll have the model rotate to 90 degrees off.

The unit model scaling gadget (by PetTurtle) doesn't touch the rotation of pieces. Just the scale and offset.

One thing I notice when I open up the chisel model in Blender is that transforms aren't applied. Could that be causing it?

It doesn't cause issues with the animation of the thing before the gadget messes with it, so it shouldn't.

I am doubtful the scaling gadget does not touch rotations if it results in changed rotations.

I tested the starlight using the same mod but it worked fine. I guess something happened that might be hard to reproduce, but I don't think it's the mod.

It's definitely the mod. It only happens when the chisel levels up.

The issue started before the starlight had gained any XP or killed any units. But I guess it could still be mod related somehow.

After further tests it looks like this is indeed caused by the mod. Excluding the starlight (and maybe the gauss) from scaling in size when it ranks up should be a suitable work-a-round.
