how the hell is lance halberd mace supposed to be countered

shields didn't work
amph (anything) didn't work (Lances killed the grizzlies and buoys, ducks couldn't get past the halberds and maces)
glaives didn't work (Maces made mincemeat of them)
phantoms didn't work (Halberds absorbed most of the damage and easily scouted out the phantoms)

didn't go for firewalker until too late in the game but I doubt that would have worked either (lances outrange them)

From what I can tell the only way I could have won this game is dedicate all my resources into a pair of merlins during the period he controlled neither corner mex patch.

rushing a likho might work? (they will one-shot lances, and will probably pay for itself+airfac with a single good hit, which might allow you to attack with other forces)
maybe sneak scythes around and hit the lances?
Hovers need LOS to hit stuff. both due to their lack of splash or spread and their beam weapons. so using terraform to block LOS and to shelter your ballistic-trajectory arty might also work

USrankStuart98 Lance is extremely common in lategame 1v1 meta now and it's so tiring to see every other game. Thankfully, there are things you can do about it if you're not too far behind.

  • Lots of thugs
  • Lots of halberds
  • Lots of ronins (against the composition you described)
  • Lances or emissary of your own (plus owl)
  • Phantom do work but better on a different map
  • Likho only viable if you're certain you can make cost
  • Cloaked riots / puppies / snitches
  • Big daddy merlin

It's tough, because lance is the ultimate sit-back-and-attrition unit. When it gets into high enough numbers things just get stupid because you can't approach them with any ground based composition at all. Good luck mate.

As Dregs said, though I feel some bandits in a thug-ball help quite a bit in this situation. Glaives are even better, if you already have the factory for some reason.

Hey, so i didnt watched the game, but did you rly use 3 different ground maps in one 1v1?
that seems like alot, could it be that the mistake was made somewhere else?
Sometimes you dont need to beat the enemy army in order to win. ;)
