This is a simple thing that nonetheless works to make the game very ugly for players -

why is the default player color such an ugly, nauseating shade of light blue?
It looks awful, makes the units look washed out and on the lighter units like penetrators/banshees is not very visible.
The light-blue player color is 100% my least favorite thing about ZK, and I dont know why I have waited a year to point this out. its awful!

I would like to propose the default player color become a nice deep royal blue, and the horrible light blue be swapped out for an ally color.

We are sure that it can be changed in some lua files

You can edit Luaui/Configs/LocalColors.lua to give yourself any color scheme you'd like. That file is a local override of the standard colors.

I'd recommend a leafy green for the player and other greens for allies as an alternative setting to maintain the good vs evil color scheme while being easy on the eyes

cons: most maps have grass.

The widget source:

http://code.google.com/p/zero-k/source/browse/trunk/mods/zk/LuaUI/Widgets/gui_local_colors.lua

It looks like colors are currently defined here:

http://code.google.com/p/zero-k/source/browse/trunk/mods/zk/LuaUI/Configs/ZKTeamColors.lua

If you want to copy that file to "Luaui/Configs/LocalColors.lua" in your own spring directory and then make whatever tweaks to it. Just change the myColor vector to whatever you want.

to clarify -

I understand how to change it on my game.

I propose it be changed in the next version to use a less ugly color, on the basis this will improve the game for all players. I do not see any factors in favor over the ugly light blue over an attractive deep royal blue to counterpoint the current default deep red of first opponent.

Color was select for high contrast and visibility over varied terrains.
Personal preferences differ but many people have poor sensitivity to pure blue light and its hard to discern dark blue colors.

It is visible, I agree.

However, it is also very ugly.

Would you consider tweaking in the direction of a compromise between visual appeal and visiblity?

green is not a good idea imo, as most maps are green.

just a darker blue - dosn't need to be dark, just darker than it is currently

green is actually an awful recommendation of mine purely on the basis of colorblind people

I installed the lua on the correct place and changed my color. But ingame I still have the lightblue-ish color. Do I need to change something ingame too?

You know, this has never been explained to me. I bring this up every single time a discussion about team colors comes up, but no one will respond.

Why is it that Springie has the ability to set teamcolors in lobby, but yet each player uses a widget to set teamcolors in game.

Pros of having Springie do it:
-One less piece of Lua that slows loading speed of game and increases widget bloat
-Each player sees every ally/enemy as the same color, allowing people to use their teammates colors instead of learning their name

Cons of having Springie do it:
?

Am I missing something here?

I want to be always light blue and I want that all enemies would be redish. Red means danger, go to BA servers and feel confusion when you dont know if this unit is enemy or not unless you hover with mouse. It is simply perfect as it is if devs will mess again with this then again people will start raging just like from "simple" colors time.
