This is such a nobel idea. Absolutely exeptional, yess and I think the in-game reproduction system should be insipred by natural phenomena. Eg. follow Mendel law of inheritance. In simplistic form, there would be 4 breeds Strike/Guardian/Recon/Engineer that would presumably, boom together.
Imagine the surprise of your enemy when suddenly he must share metal as alimony if he rape your emp'd commanderette
Eg. for the gametes, that makes traits:
high HP as an first capital "A" dominant
low HP first lowercase "a" recessive
fast speed "B" dominant
slow speed "b" recessive
Now, for the breeding system there would be alleles that represents different phenotypes such as speed/HP. Lets assume:
Strike - high HP & fast speed = AABB/AABb/AaBB/AaBb
Guardian - high HP & slow speed = AAbb/AaBb/Aabb
Recon - low HP & fast speed = aaBB/aaBb
Engineer - low HP & slow speed = aabb (rare?)
So lets imagine the boom boom pairing Strike & Recon (we siplify further and make this robo-relationships of hermaphrodite nature)
This shows basically how algorithm could calculate probability of each commander being born by proposed traits. Not bad eh? little engineer on ur way if you feel lucky. The system could be even more sophisticated and include inheritance of com modules, jump ability etc. The technical part HOW is kinda tricky, talkiing about concept art, mechanics, ethics (etc. etc...) Therr must be an option in settings to turn on/off animations of the very coitus act imho
