why would someone allow there own cat to potentially kill itself =(

its cool, the cat is gnawing on hard parts of wire, i once had to run with mine to vet when my fam fed her plastic line to get something to grease her up from inside so she could poop out that plastic twine. its outgoing vs indoor cat debate, and im totally on outgoing side, even when she almost died in my arms when i had to other day go for 2 weeks with her to vet after badly been bitten by some foreign cat (got slingshot and sorted out that other cat so he wouldnt come near my balcony - lightweight cherry pits, as warning shot around that guy, nothing to hurt that guy, just to deliver message that hes not welcome around my balcony and that what he did is not cool). freedom to roam is priceless.

The voltage/current in that wire is pretty low otherwise it would blast those LEDs.

each bulb is a resistor turning the current into light and heat.. as little as 1/20th of an amp can kill you let alone a cat. so believe it or not a cat short circuiting the connection could prove fatal for the cat.. as it has done for humans in the past.. but not all these lights are cheap and some have built in breaker fuses.. however even those fuses wont trip until the cat is dead and probably most humans too.

hm, okay. the datasheets i found said 100mA peak / 20 mA continuous at 5V on average... but since I have no expertise, I guess you are right then.

Even just the shards from the glass/plastic, if the cat swallowed them, would not do it well...

mA is 1/1000.. 100 mA is 1 tenth of an amp.. half of what kills an adult human.. that may still kill a cat.

ok this is really not an electronics-forum but you can`t separate voltage and current. We can just agree tho that chewing on a power-chord is not a good idea. lets leave it at that I guess.

i hate to be that guy..

"ok this is really not an electronics-forum"

sorry maybe your right but in my defense its in Off topic forum.. and my posts are related to op

"you can`t separate voltage and current."

Amp is equal to watts divided by volts so 1w = 1V x 1A

"We can just agree tho that chewing on a power-chord is not a good idea. lets leave it at that I guess."

100% i agree. good point.

Funny swap from funny cat video and Merry Xmas post to discussing the current required for zapping a poor soul.....
