THE SOLUTION

so, recently ive been very annoyed at everyone selecting maps that do not have nice and neat 3 mex starting spots. then i got thinking, how many maps do we have that we can play at highly varied player amounts? not very many. so, i got thinking and came up with a solution to this problem that ive never heard too many people complain about but im sure everyone thinks it. metal maps! maps like full metal plate from bar, (which can be played in zero k except for the giant bar logo plastered on it) duck,(although something a bit more serious) and more could be the perfect solution. now, i hear you. "metal maps would give too much metal and be even worse than ditched!" and "metal is shared you stupid idiot i hate you!" but, heres the thing. i think if the amount of metal that these maps gave was lower per mex it could be much less "eco spam" than current metal maps. for metal being shared, i dont think this actually solves the problem. 6 mexes is great for 1-2, ok for 3-5, and beyond that (to me) is frustratingly difficult to get units out there because of 7 mexes being shared by the team.

metal maps would, to summarize,
1. provide every player with enough mexes
2. be playable with almost any number of players, the only limit being map size.
3. are a lot of fun!
4. all your favourite strategies are still possible, and just as fun.
5. you can still have those maps with way too much eco like you normally would!

actually, come to think of it, maybe random gen maps could also solve this and require less finnicking beyond the map itself.

thoughts? questions? issues with my idea? let me know

yea, but i think featuring them more and adding them to the map pool instead of burying them in the website would be better, and maps that give less metal per mex would fix the problem of very long games. also, i think only the tip of the iceberg for metalmap design has been discovered.

also, a lot of them are very similar and are the same few things with slight differences, like some are just "heres that map but there two bridges" "heres that one but its larger/smaller" etc.

ahh ok.. yeah they are not featured and not every map is a metal map its true.. hmm i think the better option then is allowing mex to just be built anywhere and to always give metal so that all maps are metal maps? do you want a mod for that?

mex can be placed anywhere and always give metal mod?

Back in TA days I made a metal map (Metal Warzone???) where it only gave I think 0.7 rather than 2.3 - it played basically the same as a metal map, but a bit slower, which was interesting and did give a bit more time for thought.

By standardising maps so that all strats are possible, the game will narrow in what is viable. It's a good thing that different maps have different play patterns, even if we all have some we find frustrating.

i agree snuggle but op want more metal maps super hard so.. i might try make him a mod that lets him do what he wants because mappers are not likley to remake clasic maps with his new settings. but last few times i made loud forum users what they want they never even try the mod. =/
