Fencer Attack Stinger Technique

The Stinger has a range of 620. The Fencer has a range of 600. By a force-attack, the fencer will die quite horribly to the Fencer.

However, the Fencer can kill the Stinger anyway.

Facts:
  • Stinger's range is a sphere originating from its turret.
  • Stinger is pretty tall.
  • Stinger Range is 620
  • Fencer's base range is 600.
  • Fencer's missile has 24 radius aoe.

Technique:
1. Move the Fencer on or slightly inside the Stinger's range indicator.
2. Target or Ground-fire in front of the stinger's base. Target is safer, because if the target is out of range, the Fencer will not move.
3. The explosions damage the Stinger.

  • It is recommended to move the Fencer to a near perpendicular/tangential path to the Stinger, so that if the Fencer has to move away before the Stinger is dead, the Fencer will not go closer to the Stinger.


Notes and Counters:
  • Terraform walls in front of the Stinger do not protect Stinger completely, but can make the targetting area further, reducing damage taken.
  • Sufficiently tall walls targetted by ground fire Fencers will sometimes have the missiles overshoot and fly in a circlular path, sometimes hitting the Stinger anyway.
  • Tall walls will also increase the Stinger's blind spot on approach.
  • Raising the Stinger just exposes the bottom of the turret more, but may make clicking on the spot in front of the Stinger a bit more difficult.
  • Lowering the Stinger does not protect it completely, and the shooting fencers will have similar behaviour to a tall wall.
  • The fencers are exceptionally vulnerable, as they have to be parked on the frontlines, and can not be effectively screened, as any closer is Stinger range.
  • It will take about 43 seconds to kill one Stinger with one Fencer, assuming 2250 HP and the full Fencer 52 DPS.
  • It's micro intensive as the Fencer is visibly inside enemy range, and the Fencer has vehicle movement so if the it did not enter at a near tangent angle to the Stinger's firing indicator, moving the Fencer sloppily may move it inside the Stinger actual range.
  • It is similar to Bulkheads attacking, but riskier and far more fragile as they're Fencers.

Frog this is clever, but I'm not sure it is good for the game? Either having to manually target, or the fencer killing the stinger.

Though thinking it through, you're probably thinking of fixing both problems and just getting it to target the edge of the unit.

It's definitely something that needs to be fixed, stinger not beating fencer causes problems.

Perhaps remove Fencer splash damage and just increase its base damage to compensate. Perhaps increases its missile speed slightly. It'd make swifts and magpies cry, but is that so bad?

I mean, targetborder with a slight range reduction would probably leave its effective range unchanged in most situations. You could play around with it.
