What if commanders do not have any initial storage whatsoever at start, instead they need to build a actual storage structure.

Aside from the shit show that discussing storage is going to be, if you don't start with either innate storage or commander based storage, how do you start with more than 0 metal? How does equalcom scale starting metal?

I feel such a mechanism will just delay starting the game with an action that everybody should do (a bit like how we were building factories before and now we get one gifted). Plus the complexity of dealing with "having the initial metal that is not stored anywhere" - that is if you want to keep that.

If you want to accomplish to have something to protect, maybe the commander could have storage but be much slower while carrying it and it could drop it somewhere. Kind of like a gift storage plus an incentive to do it.

i can make a mod that makes your commander into a storage.. so you spawn as one

games will last a long long time though

maybe we can get e storage separate of m storage
Then we get storage tier

I guess an advantage would be too lessen the impact of very early com snipe. I haven't seen this happen a lot recently though, and the alternatives (of either factory storage or starting with storage that isn't connected to anything) seem to be more problematic.

Losing the com storage seems to cause a lot of problems.

I would like to see the actual storage reduced in price though. Why is it so expensive out of interest?

It feels like it's generally a bad play to build them unless you're an experienced player?

Even then, the cost being fully 20% of the metal cost is a bit exorbitant. I still build them, because I like that they offer me flexibility, but given you also need more build power...

Maybe add some storage to factories (even full storage). Maybe that will also make people plop factories always, I still see people that never plop the initial factory...

If you halved the cost of storages, new players might spam twice as many of them, and leave more of the team's metal sitting idle. Its not intuitive to a new player that storing metal is sort of like stealing metal from your team, so more expensive is better than cheaper imo.

what about dropping a movable storage vehicle in addition to the commander.
the storage vehicle could take care of the initial metal and storage and maybe even the passive income.

maybe make base storage independent of units at 500m/e. also, make each additional storage double in price to make lobs pay.
