We have been having larger FFA games that are forced to become team FFA with uneven teams.

The following maps are tagged as 16 player FFA. which is rarely played I am planning on retagging and changing the boxes on some of these maps. So we can have 10 way 11 way 13 way 14 way maps.

Throne v1 (15 remove middle box)
Real Europe V4 (13)
Mearth_v4 (14)
Dworld_V1 (11)
LoreaGurpila (9)
IcySea-v2 (10)
Knockout_v2 (same boxes)
Rage_v1(same boxes)
Melange_v1(same boxes??? or 10)

Real Europe, Throne, Mearth, and Dworld at least are suitable for any amount of players. Having 16 boxes simply means that it's the maximum recommended number of players. But those maps work fine with less as well, even with the current boxes.

Only problem that I see with most of the big FFA maps is the crazy amount of metal, which is a result of them being designed for BA. They could use a hefty metal reduction via a config.

The auto selection of maps right now does not work that way. It selects a map based on how many players the map is tagged for.

Also you have the problem of getting randomly assigned boxes if you tag for less say a map with 16 boxes tagged as a 8 player map.

It is better if we have maps tagged for each player counts rather them a lot of 16 player maps that never get played.

It says max team count but it is really a min.

I agree that the current mappicker logic is far from optimal for FFA maps. Improving the FFA mappicker, for example by adding a minimum team count tag, might be a solution to this. Then strictly 5 team maps could be tagged as minimum and maximum 5 teams, while maps like Real Europe could be minimum 2 and maximum 16.

Right now ffa breaks with more then 8 players.

1: ignore boxes with numbers higher then current player count.

2: min and max tags

This would fix it.

What happens currently, if a map has more boxes than the current player count? I thought did ignore the remaining boxes.

A lot of FFA maps can frankly be played with any team count, especially the asymmetrical 'geographical' ones.

asymmetrical 'geographical' ones can be played with non-standard team counts if the right starting boxes are used.

Right now you can have the problem of random starting boxes. Plus the map picker will never pick those maps.
