With this "new" eco balance, no ecell and maybe some other changes, I didn't notized, with energie income, I like to start with a Com Junior in 1v1 sometimes.
Thats why I want to ask now, why is the strike com the only com Junior that is available?
Is this a balance reason?
I have seen this nice window in some singleplayer missions, where you can choose a Com Junior out of battle, support, recon and strike Com.
I would like, if this gets implemented in the multiplayer games too.

comm junior is the same as starting with a t0 strike com and morfing to lvl1 with only beam laser

only difrence is that com juniod does not need to be morfed and gives you -50 start metal

Just add a predefined standard commander (eg Strike + laser + ablative) for all new accounts and remove junior commander. There could even be different premade commanders for new players.

My problem is not the start metal but the start energy. If I morph my com I always stall e hard after that. Thats why I asked for a Junior Com like Recon or Support. That would be nice to have.

In a way, Comm Jr is the predefined standard commander (ie. Strike + laser) for all new accounts. Lacking morph is good anyway, considering it has no other modules.

How is that related? Support no longer gets a production bonus. Junior versions of any chassis would be equivalent to a customised comm with a Beamlaser morphed to level 1. You can unlock any chassis + a Beamlaser very fast, so unless it is somehow crucial to use non-Strike chassis for your first 3 or so games there is no need for other Juniors as you can easily create them yourself.

It's also good if there is a standarised default commander because some comm needs to be spawned in case a player drops, for AIs, and as the tourney comm in case forceJunior gets used.

Support for more build range. Is faster at start and if you want to build things from a bit more save distance. And Recon for Jump. If you morph this 2 coms from 0 to 1 you will pay the metal+ the energy. If you got Junior you allready payed it and you got a faster start. because you don't need to wait for morph, if you lack e or m again.

Junior is not more economical than a regular strike com with laser. Like said, you pay for the laser that junior has by being given 50 less metal and energy when the game starts.

Actually, junior puts you in a worse spot than the equivalent strike commander because it's often not optimal to morph right away. I usually morph to level 1 when I expect to start getting into skirmishes with enemy raiders, which saves me those 50-100m in the very beginning and allows for slightly larger investment in economy or units depending on the aggressiveness or greed of my opening.

Yes I just tested it.
But I found out something interesting.
The metal cost, that is listed in the modul info, is the same like the energy cost for one and the same modul.
Didn't know that. This answered a few questions I had.
I would say that this info, (metal = energy cost) should be written down somewhere for newbies or players like me. :D

Thx all my questions are answered now.

You wouldn't get a faster start with Junior versions of other chasses because level 0 Support already has higher build range and level 0 Recon already has Jump. I'm not sure how paying 50 for Junior upfront is superior to the ability to pay 50 over time for the same result, either. Note that you also pay energy for Junior. Juniors would mostly benefit from their chassis type and you can unlock those so fast it's not really necessary.

Edit: oops, forgot to submit for 50+ minutes >_< Well, anyway:

This applies to everything that costs metal (though not the other way around, eg. repair). Note how units don't have their energy costs listed either.

So what would be the point of these trainer comms? I, for one, think it's good that morphing comm isn't the first thing a newb can do.

FIranksprang if you look at 1v1 games. Example small rush map. Newbie can't morph and get overrunned by morphed troll com... Not fair.

If a LV1 com is required to counter a com push there are serious balance problems. A good com push is quite expensive and any setup that can be morphed quick enough to work can be countered with normal units.

@magman You have a point, in that a player with a battle comm and a powerful weapon for it will have an edge over a beamlaser junior strikecomm, in a rush situation. But I'm still not sure every newbie should be able to morph their comm to lvl5 because of this...

My POV: any AoE weapon absolutely ruins raiders, eg. a Shotgun com is much harder to kill than Beamlaser due to kinda-AoE, burst damage AND increased DPS at only 50m more than Laser: this is a massive bargain. Add Autorepair which makes any damage done non-lasting and your comm can only be countered by a very limited set of units (eg. cloakyfac basically only has Tick; Zeus could probably work defensively but is as expensive as Weapon + Autorepair, less mobile than Jumpy, and won't autoregen any damage you deal).

But since Com Jr is free you can get some rockos to assist against that riotcom. I think on most maps there wont be much difference in effectiveness between Jr/units and a LV1 custom com.

It is still a problem that new players have less options than people with comms unlocked. It definitely makes 1v1 unfair.

I think a new player has no big chances to beat a average player. Doesn't matter if he/she is able to morph com or not. The only problem I see is a rush situation. Because lv5 com is very hard to kill, but if you can morph it that high you got either eco advantage and won in any case or you wasted a lot of metal in it and lost when it gets overrunned by units.
