It's rare for me to actively cheer for enemy killing my team, but in this case ESrankmoepmoep was being an extremely selfish leech just reclaiming front without participating himself. Seeing his athena leeches get bombed was very satisfying.

He didn't even place factory down (until 14 minutes into the game), just went straight strider hub and sabotaged his team by stealing all reclaim with athenas without helping at all.

He dealt 0 damage until 18 minutes into the game.

doesn't excess metal go to teammates? or no?

He was also making storages making sure none of the stolen metal found any useful application. He pumped it all into his leeching athenas (that kept dying) and a paladin that got to front long after game was decided (9 minutes before game ended).

Well, it's better for ESrankmoepmoep to steal it first than your enemy. I see this as a win

Watch the replay yourself, he was playing like a parasite and just stealing reclaim that was already secure and ours. He didn't help his team at all or made any attempt to cooperate with anyone. The other 0 damage player MYrankHougo at least made eco and didn't steal.

I'm really disgusted that it's ok to play like this, just idling and getting carried. I guess their rank reflects their non-contribution but it's still demoralizing when you get sabotaged by your "allies" and see the metal you earned sucked into useless bullshit.

Still don't get how nobody counters your spider push like at all.

This is the sort of thing where I think a community consensus is required to decide that it is not okay.

(By this I mean "have a wider conversation and establish what the consensus of the community as a whole is", not "have the immediately present people vote for or against a kick".)

The moderation team is generally not comfortable making judgements about what is not valid play based on our own opinions. Things like "if you play newton ramp, or ships on a land map, there is more of an onus on you to demonstrate that you are playing respectfully to your team" have come about because they appeared to be the consensus position of the community.

The moderators are probably more willing to say that something is definitively valid play, even if a substantial fraction of the community might disagree. For example, being new and bad at the game is valid. Speaking for myself, I don't see a reason to say that "starting at the back and sucking up all reclaim with athenas for some vanity project" is definitively valid play.

To throw in my two cents: I think people should be able to play how they like and if that's ships on a land map or newton ramps I'm just gonna have to put up with it in the name of gameplay freedom.

GBrankPRO_Dregs: What about Casual Rating still existing for balancing purposes (because even in casual games, people are going to be put off if it's 5 top 20 vs 5 average lobs) but not having a ladder and the number itself only showing up in the detailed ratings view?

Is this the same as just having a 1v1 ladder? If yes, feels a step backwards "features wise" but probably a step forward for getting people to just relax and not care about the outcome of the all-welcome teams room.

Seeing player rank is important if the game expects me to perform better than rest of my team. The whole balancing system assumes a higher ranked player can carry lower ranked players, not knowing who my actual useful teammates are would make prioritizing my actions a lot harder.

There's such a thing as griefing in other games, where people intentionally play in a manner detrimental to their team. These actions don't have to benefit the perpetrator in game terms. In Zero-K there's game mechanics that practically beg to be abused in a spectacularly useless way in the name of personal fun, all at the expense of your team that has to carry your detrimental behavior.

I'd like to repeat myself too, since there's this perverse idea that hiding some colored icons and numbers would somehow make people tolerate losing and general shitty behavior. I don't care what you call the room, what label you put on it or who is welcome. If the objective is a player vs player victory with teams involved, everyone has a responsibility to contribute. Imagine joining a casual football game and just having a smoke all game instead of playing, or keeping the ball to yourself because you like the attention.
