Perhaps more to the point, this game wasn't balanced according to what the ladder displayed as our ratings at the time. Possibly it was out of date.

That's exactly how i read the "how is this balance" comment(s). Also it still says 60/40 victory chance (but perhaps it was even more of a disparity).

I guess "WHR knows best" would be best phrased as "matchmaker knows best" :P

It was reasonably obvious who'd win by 10 minutes in though.
The other team just dragged it on for another 40 minutes.

Wasn't that obvious to me! I think if the losing team's air fleet was used more aggressively (like the winning team's much smaller gunship fleet was constantly used to output damage), the reclaim field could have given them victory.
