Am I alone in disliking terraforming?
In this particular instance raiding became quite difficult as a result.

The terraform costs about 50 metal for each mex.
Personally, I'd rather take a Lotus turret for each 2 mex instead.
Maybe you could consider this a shieldbot advantage as the slower shieldbots don't need to keep up with a large rover raider force to defend mexes but can instead force the enemy into the Outlaws and Outlaws will easily take care of terraformed mexes.

Note however that the mexes aren't totally unraidable by scorchers. By standing right on the edge of the hole, you can fire down on the mexes. It is really finicky though.

While dug-down mexes are raidable, in the Rover arsenal only Ripper, Impaler and Mason can practically do damage to ones that are walled.

Buff ripper terra-tron sidearm?

SErankGodde : I tried having a Scorcher on the very edge of the hole but it failed to fire.
How do you raid dug down mexes with Rover when the only thing that can kill them is the 700 cost Impaler?

Holes have to be quite shallow for Scorchers to fire. This is a disadvantage of the low profile of rovers. Bandits and Glaives can almost always shoot into holes. This is just one of the many advantages of bipedalism.
